Piles skin tag removal

I've been looking about for a way to remove anal skin tags that, I suppose, are formed when haemorrhoids collapse or what have you. My GP's point of view is that they're minor things and ah sure just ignore them. Seeing as it's not a "going to a specialist" issue I suppose it falls into the arena of cosmetic surgery (or Embarrassing Bodies on TV!)

Searching through boards.ie threads, others have had issues with generic skin tags - on face or arms and the like. And I can google and see there are a number clinics in Dublin that do that along with other minor cosmetic stuff.

The only place I found that specifically mentions anal skin tag removal is Cosmedics in London. Has anyone else resorted to travel to get this kind of thing sorted? It seems like it would be a fairly common problem that would be dealt with in Ireland but I'm not finding anyone explicitly mentioning it on their website.

The Mater and The Bons (and probably many others) can deal with that kind of thing. Your first (now second) calling point is to go back to your GP. Explain that while her POV is that they're minor, they're bothering you, and you're willing to have them dealt with privately, and could you have a referral letter. You'll probably be referred to a dermatologist or a "haemorrhoids" consultant. The consultant will discuss the best options, and may counsel against doing anything, but that's a discussion to have with them, and explain how it's impacting you (physically or mentally).

The main reason I could see for not going ahead is that the cure could be worse - it's not an area I'd fancy getting an infection in, and could be an awkward spot to keep clean and dry if actual stitches were needed. I had something taken off my foot recently, and that was difficult enough to keep sterile!

That's a good idea Thoie - I'll go back and talk to my GP. I think I was too inclined to just accept his point of view instead of pushing a bit harder (pun not intended!).

I was concerned about infection alright. I'm not sure I want to get something done in London, come home and only then have some sort of major issue. If I'm seen in the Mater, then I can follow up much more easily.

Good stuff - I've a plan of action anyways 😄
