I am thinking of taking a break to GB in August for a week- sail/rail trip. Has anyone any suggestions? Thinking of northern England and Scotland perhaps but open to all 3 countries!

Is there some kind of weekly rail pass i can get too? Would need to plan an itinerary to book accommodation. I've never been to the Lake District. Worked a lot in England on work trips but never got to see much so would really like the opportunity and not interested in travelling very far just now as I'm not fully vaccinated yet.

Love to hear people's advice and suggestions as I'm a bit lost as to where to start.

Im interested in this myself. I've done the sail and rail before, taking the train to London, which I really enjoyed. Let me ask you though, what do you need to travel on the ferry these days, is it the same as flying, in that you'll need the digital proof of vaccination?

I haven’t a clue that’s why I was asking the same questions but not much response so far!! Far as I know from Ireland there’s no real restrictions but coming back I’m not sure? Do you need a PCR as non Eu now?

any suggestions on trips and rail tickets? I e done nothing since. Not bothered with London, have been done that before. More interested in seeing the countryside and smaller cities/towns suggestions

An overnight train would be nice. London to Scotland or London to Cornwall. On my radar and have never done both.

Fly to Manchester and take the Transpennine Express from the airport railway station (via Picadilliy)?

This is what you're looking for, there's a whole range of options from the whole of Britain to localised passes, from two day to a months validity, or a number of days within a fixed period, they're only available to people living outside of Britain. So you need to book before you travel.

You can search various options to see the price range, it also includes the sleepers to/from Cornwall and Scotland, so you'd save a nights hotel accommodation. and ferries to/from the Scottish islands and IOM, (and I think, Ireland).

For example 8 days non consecutive travel in a month is £329

You can also purchase one for first class travel if you want to splash out, about £489 for eight days travel in a month. There's cheaper options if you want to travel on consecutive days, 8 days in a row is £260 in standard or £389 in First

You should do some research on the various train companies as the standard of travel and comfort varies a lot.

However it's a brilliant deal if you want to cover some serious ground on your holiday. ☺️

Forgot to include a map to show the extent of the area covered

I would be interested in doing this too. Not sure of an Itinerary though. Was in London and Manchester before so would rather elsewhere.

I would say it depends on the time you are spending but you are better off getting a regional one.

PIck a region and look at the Rover tickets available. Then get your sail/rail to main hub there and buy your rover the next day.

Tickets are varied so definitely worth picking a region first. This is probably the main list of rangers and rovers, as theyre called.

Have the rough bones of something in mind (nothing booked yet)-

1.foot passenger from either Rosslare/Dublin to Fishgaurd/Holyhead- night in Liverpool (never been)- 3 nights in Lake District (never been, would love some tips)- couple nights around Yorkshire (Leeds or York??) and back again.

    OR

2.foot passenger from either Rosslare to Fishgaurd- night in Cardiff and/or another nice spot in Wales. Into England night or two in Bath or Bristol - Devon/Cornwall for 3 days or so and return.

Would love some recommendations along the way please? Thanks
