Too late now but I think you'd get a bigger Irish and international interest in videos on the Camry than on the Rover 75. OTOH there didn't seem to be much wrong with the Camry apart from dirt and bodywork dings so the scope for videos could be limited.

The Camry was and is a decent looking car. It also did very well by 1997 standards in EuroNCAP, nearly as good as the E39 and better than the Volvo S70, W210 and Audi A6 C5. At the time people acknowledge that Toyota were very reliable but there was a definite perception that they were tin cans in a crash compared to Swedish and German cars, this was proven to be nonsense.

I'm still learning a lot about this but it seems the Rover was the better choice based on views.........despite me liking the Camry a lot the views speak for themselves, nobody is interested in clicking on a video about an old Camry. Pity really. It's the very same with my C180 and to a lesser extent my Megane, very few clicks through to watch videos on them. I could go all click baity about them but it's not me. I should add the Camry wasn't bought for YouTube but it was a good way to use it, it's instead gone to fund a different project.

I do have an MR2 project that I'm keeping quiet about as I'm gathering parts but that will end up with someone else to do as I have no tools to work on it and the garage I have is too dark to film in if I was to go about it. Caught each way!

As for the Camry being safe if I remember correctly the Avensis was the same, it got a 4 star score too. I crashed 2 and walked away ok so I can attest to their build quality!

Avensis Mk1 was 3 stars if I remember correctly. Pretty good considering it was a rehashed Carina E and only came with 2 airbags to begin with IIRC. The second one was five stars and even in Ireland we got curtain airbags and a knee airbag for the driver as standard on every model.

This week on John's Garage I take a look around a NATO Spec ex-British Army LandRover Ninety and it's Penman trailer. 68-KF-57 was the original reg plate on this vehicle and it has 15 years of classified service history.
