My nct was due Feb of this year, and I got the covid extension until June
When I went to get a new nct test, the earliest i could get anywhere was July..
Is my insurance still valid? Not due to expire until next year..
Can I drive anywhere until I get an nct?
Can I even legally drive to the nct centre to get tested??

When did you try to book the test?
As far as I know, you'll be liable for points if you're stopped, the only exemption is for driving it to a test. That's open to correction though.

I tried to book in late May, a month before due it was due to expire..the earliest I could get was July 7th. I'm keeping the car off the road until then..

phone them and ask for a cancellation, you'll probably get an appointment quicker.

I'm in the exact same position. The faqs on the nct site mention that the Guards can exercise discretion so I'd imagine showing your appointment text would be sufficient in the event you were stopped.

Keep checking the website, new appointments constantly pop up on it.

But as mentioned ring and list for cancelations.

You should only drive to the test.
However, the garda will probably let you go if you show you have an appointment soon - no promises.

The insurance is an interesting one though. I saw this on my Zurich latest policy it states must have valid nct.

I'll be checking myself over next few days. Wifes car is due in 5 weeks and nearest date I'm being offered is 10 weeks

Try checking at 9.30 pm daily when the cancelled tests are returned to the booking pool, I've had success with this.

I've got the confirmation email from the nct on my dashboard the same day I received it...just to be sure

As pp have said keep checking the website, a slot may become free.

The only exemption as far as I know is driving a SORD car to the test. Driving a car with an expired NCT is offence and you'd be relying on the Gard having some cop on if stopped.
