Where do main dealers pull their pricing from!?

Recently purchased a mondeo mk4, had that buzzing sound after engine turned off, found to be the vacuum solenoids for turbo and egr. Only the turbo one was bad so I got 2nd hand one from breakers. Car was going well again but has made the noise again, so decided to just buy brand new parts.

Rang ford main dealer for pricing as no motor factors had a clue what part I was on about, even with the oem part number. Ford quoted me...drum roll please........ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTYYYYY euro, plus vat, for ONE part, ridiculous, I said no thanks and sourced a pierburg part with same part number, turns out pierburg are the oem manufacturer for those solenoids, exact same part just without the ford branding on it. It cost me €90 for 2 of them with shipping included in that price.

Where the hell do main dealers calculate their prices from, whoever does their accounting must be doing so on the basis of something like a 400-500% mark up.

It's almost like the part manufacturer has less overheads to cover and Ford are attempting to make a profit the evil b@stards

I'm glad you shopped around and found a cheaper alternative.

So your saying you bought something online cheaper than a different brand item in a bricks and mortar store.

Stop the press, that's tomorrows headline.
