Off leash dogs

I recently got a retired greyhound, super chilled and small dog and cat friendly. I've noticed a lot of people (I'm talking in regular parks and on the streets) having their small dogs off the leash. It has happened yesterday that someone unleashed her 3 small dogs in the park and they've started running towards us barking and growling and he did get triggered and scared. How do you deal with situations like that? I don't want to have him muzzled all the time because of irresponsible people. I've managed to get his focus and walk away on time but it seems to me that this will be everyday situations. :(

Unfortunately you’ll find this is a problem all over, not limited to just small dogs, it’s great you are able to get his focus though. Our Pom gets a fright when that happens too so she is trained to get between my legs or to go into a down and I throw what ever I’ve in my pocket in the opposite direction so the dogs generally go over to see what it was & we move on. I carry Esmae’s muzzle on her lead, mostly bc she’s kind of accident prone and needs it at the vet.

I had a lady give out to me because I threw sausage and apparently her dog wasn’t allowed it, I yelled back to her then keep her dog on a lead & walked away.

You’ll find a huge amount of dog owners are ignorant in understanding their dogs so you’ll have find ways to mitigate issues. One thing about having him wear a baskerville muzzle will signal to there’s that your responsible and that your dog needs space.

Sorry to hear about your issues with off lead dogs.

We have a lurcher and he is muzzled for similar reasons. Just wanted to recommend an Irish based manufacturer if you do choose to get a muzzle. http://www.muzzlesforgreyhounds.com/index.html

Congratulations on your new doggy :)
