loud noise coming from water tank

    Hi all,

We moved into a new build in December and we have started noticing a loud metallic hissing sound every time we open a tap and the water tank refills, as if a valve would not be working properly. It used to happen every time a tap was opened, but for the last 12 hours it is happening a few times per hour, even without opening any taps. Would anyone know what this could be? Would anyone know if this could be a sign of a leak somewhere?

New build , less than 6 months old , parts should be under warranty, what warranty was in the terms of the purchase?

Not to tar all new builds with the same brush but some possibilites

Sanitary ware is generally cheap enough stuff so the ballcocks and other internal components are often not great allowing a tiny amount of water to pass and this calls on the pump frequently . Check your toilets to see are any running constantly with a tiny amount of water. If this is the issue and adjustment may help for a while but longterm i would be putting in better quality components.

I had a very similar problem, it was resolved by replacing on of the shower mixer units.
I guess that the mixer seal was not sealing properly, the shower was dripping intermittently, this would sometimes force the water pump to run for a second or two and if water is getting out, chances are air is getting in.
