Temporary traffic lights cost

I reckon they're easy enough to make from scratch. I think I might have a go at making some. How much do they usually sell for? I don't want to give them away too cheap

Perhaps I'll only rent them out. Going rate seems to be 50-100 quid a day? am I far off the mark here?

What hurdles would I face if I had 10 pairs sitting ready on my back yard and wanted to rent them out to the council, assuming I set aside the required amount for the brown envelope?

Ah come on, you can do better than this. You have to put a bit more effort into stoking the fire round here than over on After Hours.

I was deliberately trying to tone it down. If I rile 'em up good'oh I won't get any good advice and it will devolve into petty nonsense.

Am not messing by the way. A temporary traffic light would not be the most complicated thing I have made so far and I think there is potential.

Councils put that stuff up on a etenders website. You need to be a registered business to be able to bid and the tender documents will have the requirements needed to bid.

Interesting. Is there an exclusive supplier for every council? Does it ever happen that their preferred supplier runs out and they have to use DoneDeal/Golden pages to find one?

As Del said, they use the etenders site to find suppliers - http://www.etenders.gov.ie/

Tis a pity there is only one that shows up in the search and that appears to be for permanent ones.

Perhaps they're under some euphemistic title like 'Optical vehicular management signalling system' or I am doing it wrong

The council will hire a road maintenance company who will be required to supply their own temporary traffic lights/person holding a stop sign. The council won't have or need temporary traffic lights

Ah great so I don't need to win a tender. Much easier. What I was hoping to find was some standard document from the international guild of temporary traffic light manufacturers but if it doesn't exist i am laughing altogether

The construction companies who win the tenders to do roadworks will supply themselves. It is cheaper for them to invest in them than renting. You think a company which will be spending a couple of hundred k for a trucks and equipment will worry about the cost of a couple of temp lights?

Plant like this is generally hired as when they start acting up they just send it back. I’d say there’s very little money in things like this unless you are renting in bulk, no big contractor is going to want to deal with someone who has a couple of units and would have to repair something that’s packed up and not just be able to immediately drop off working kit.
It’s the same reason large contractors rent MEWPs it would be cheaper to buy but then they are responsible for repair and maintenance, far easier to have a third party worry about it.
