Indoor clothes

The mad controversial thread of shoes on or off inside the house got me thinking...

When I get home, not only do I take off my shoes but I also change my clothes. Can't be doing with sitting around in my 'work' clothes.
On with the tracksuit bottoms or shorts, and t-shirts or jumpers.
Am all about the comfort at home!

So, I couldn't be the only one??!

I do this too, I have tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts, hoodies for use in the house. Don't like wearing jeans or work clothes when I'm home.
I think it stems from changing out of the school uniform when I got home from school many years ago!
I don't like wearing shoes in the house either (but I don't insist guests remove theirs - I have wood floors!)

It depends what I'm doing, I dress very casually for work, but if I'm doing outdoor stuff when I go home I'll change into old clothes and boots.

If I'm not doing anything (only mooching around the house), I tend to stay in the same clothes all day. I'll kick off the runners and throw on my birks. I change all my clothes/wash them daily anyway. Can't bear putting on the same stuff the next day (maybe I'm a total weirdo :D )

The day I deliberately purchase and then wear tracksuit bottoms will be the day I've gone troppo and given up on life.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Soft bottom slippers, like very thick socks. Shorts during summer, tracksuit bottoms during winder. Long sleeved t-shirt. Sometimes a gillet when it gets chilly.

I don't understand people who lounge around the house in jeans and footwear. Psychopaths.

In our house shoes are taken off at the door. Carried this over from living in Germany.

I suppose it depends on your work clothes. If I worked as a medieval knight, I might take off my armour and chainmail when I got home, and change into a comfy linen tunic. I guess astronauts don't wear those spacesuits lounging in front of the TV of an evening.

But as it is I wear jeans and t-shirt all time time, to work and everything. So there's really nothing to change into. On the rare occasion I had to wear a shirt, I would change it for a t-shirt when I came home. Mainly so I don't spill my dinner on it.

    Depends on your job.
If you wear a uniform or suit you are going to take it off when you get home. Helps to relax. If you dress casually / normally in work you don't need to. Take off your jacket and shoes and you can relax.

There is no way you carried a door to Ireland from Germany.

Yeah if I have more formal clothes on I’d usually change into jeans or equivalent straight away.

Tracksuits bottoms would be something I'd wear descending into the seventh circle of hell.

Off topic, but this is something that happens to people when they go to live in a home. I've had family members used to wearing three piece suits all day, reduced to tracksuits with name labels on them :( Sorry for the downer ...

On topic, I change when I get in from work usually, if i'm having a very 'formal' day. Spring and summer, I'm usually smart casual and don't bother. But I always change before I go for a walk with the dog. I like to walk quite far and we sometimes end up hiking up a hillside so i'll be appropriately dressed. I love to be at home and feel i'm smart - especially if someone calls - but equally, if i'm not in my pyjamas and slippers by 8:30, there's something amiss!

Smart casual in work, well in normal times when I'm not wfh, normal casual clothes when out and about.

Waynetta Slob at home, yoga pants and t-shirt or hoodie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,184 ✭✭✭85603

Yeah, nice pair of loose tracksuit bottoms when i get home.
Few snacks, 10 mins sleep, wake up to a tracksuit tent.
Walk round the house with a big stalk popping out.

Gilet as lounge wear, that made me laugh for some reason.

I hate the way people stare and sneer when I wear my indoor clothes outdoors, even just running into Spar for a pint of milk.

Always been like this too. If I'm leaving the house for anything, the outdoor clothes go on. When I get back, it's a Tshirt/fleece hoody, tracksuit and runners.

As soon as I get in the door from work, straight into the shower then put on my comfies, whether that's trackkies or pj's, depends on whats going on for the evening

I'll resist both until my last breath when the time comes.

Wear smart/casual at work, most of the time shirt and tie, so change out of that when I get home. I like to have a clear demarcation line between home and work.

I had to do this once. I was walking home after playing 5 a side and it was snowing. As I was in shorts, I was forced to buy a pair of tracksuit bottoms.

Not even tracksuit bottoms for exercise? I've a few. Slim fitting - not shapeless baggy things - and I wear them around the house doing cleaning or just relaxing.

I don't mind slim fit too much, but I don't own any. Really not a fan of the baggy grey tracksuit bottoms look.

I just wear shorts when exercising/good weather and jeans/chinos around the house.

It's a bit strange to be so melodramatically against them even as just around the house/exercise wear. That's not the same as wearing them to a restaurant or shopping or the pub!

I work, well worked (quit my job today, best feeling ever) in the trades. Nothing better than kicking off the boots and snickers and throwing on a pair of jammy bottoms and slippers when I got home!
I bought a pair of cheap tracksuit bottoms months ago when I got into an exercise buzz, feel so weird leaving the house in them to go for a run! Couldn't imagine wearing them out and about!

The weirdos in my house need to have the windows open all day every day. My room is warm but everywhere else in the house is about 5 degrees cooler.

I shall slip into the smoking jacket or perhaps the robe de chambres and evening cravat.
If guests are joining, simple evening dinner wear with black neck tie, unless of course it's opera night then the white tie is de rigueur.
Oxford pumps or loafers of course.

    100 % this

Never have I worn or even owned a pair of track suit bottoms........and at this point I can safely say that I never will.

Jeans and a tee shirt for me,keep the runners on most of the time because you never know when you need to go out to the car or the shed or the bin and it's a pain in the hole having to get them and put them on.

I always find it odd when people wear shoes inside their house - isn’t that dirty?

Regarding tracksuit would not have been caught dead in one pre pandemic (outside of exercise but that would mainly be shorts) but now they are kind of what I wear when working from home, so if I have to nip to the shop with them on there’s no panic as the mask kind of hides my face anyway...

Bizarre preciousness over tracksuit bottoms. Jaysus! And I can be a snobby ****.

Around the house - no, it's ok, you haven't failed at life. :D

Jeans and a T-shirt with a light cardigan in Spring, Autumn and Winter with sandals or light shoes when at home - and working from home.

At weekends and on my days off, I will often potter around in the nip when I wake up or take a shower - as does my OH. :) Wear nothing in bed or the bedroom generally except my aftershave or eau de toilette.

I would have to be forced at gunpoint to wear tracksuit bottoms...
