Foreign workers and salaries

I was trying to find the percentage of foreign workers in places like retail and operational jobs but had no luck. It surely has to be around 80%?

I am just curious as to why that is and what would happen in a hypothetical scenario if all of them would disappear overnight, would these jobs be left empty? Would automation have to be implemented to ensure services were provided such as petrol stations being fully automated.

I think the main reason for low native worker numbers is the low wages but then if the wages were miraculously increased to €20/h this wouldn't change anything as the cost of living would increase at the same rate as well...

Why work when you can sit on your hole and get more on the dole?

I assume that you are on the dole, so?
Otherwise, by your own logic, you must be pretty stupid.

Exceptionally so, why else would I be replying to your clever retort?

It already did happen after the Celtic Tiger crash. Service noticeable dis-improved with more native workers. If you think about it someone who will travel half way around the world to get a job, is very motivated to work.

You need to look at this from the reverse perspective. If you were an Irish person living in Germany or Sweden etc.

Even during the boom times there is always a certain % who are unemployed.

If all foreign workers working in low paid jobs disappeared overnight, then yes, most places would struggle to fill the vacancies.

If the dole disappeared overnight, you'd have no problem filling those roles.

Studies have shown this to be false.

For every 10% of wage increase, cost of living only goes up about 0.4%

    What studies?

Ireland is living proof that this happens.

    There's many solutions to that.

But most industries with low pay struggle to retain staff.
