    Any recommendations on where to buy aluminium radiators from? We've got prices from the local builders suppliers but want to compare with elsewhere. Dublin/kildare area.

    Bought my standard aluminium radiator for the bathroom from plumbingproducts.ie

    Done the rest of the house in steel Milano designer radiator's from bestheating.ie which are now also available in aluminium,

    I've also had the pipes recessed in to the walls; much cleaner looking and easier to vacuum

    Can you hang the steel ones from the wall? I thought they might have been too heavy.

    Yeah they come supplied with wall brackets brackets 8mm bolts and wall plugs,
    Legs are available as an optional extra from bestheating.ie however there not required.
    The only factor to consider when choosing designer is that the wall behind needs painting as it's visible inside the gaps of the radiator,

    Here's my kitchen radiator;
    It's a steel Milano Aruba double layer designer radiator,
    Had the pipes recessed,

    Existing radiator removed, chased out a section of wall and floor to further reveal pipes and allow space to fit some 90 degree bolt type elbows, not compression fittings must be wrench tight fittings.

    Pipes fitted and radiator on the wall,

    After a few days of making sure there were no leaks,
    Filled the gaps around the pipes with a can of expanding foam which also acts as lagging, then filled smooth with Ronseal ready mixed filler, sanded back with an orbital sander, then was the to remove the radiator and setting it on a duvet while the wall was painted the desired colour;

    Please ignore the arrow in the following picture, it was for a separate conversation regarding the placement of an IKEA kitchen top and leg to hold a printer/scanner

    I've put a graphite version in the living room

    and a vertical in the hall with a coat hanging rail above it, so on cold days the heating will ofcourse be on and warm the kids jackets ready for them going to school.

    All single layer upstairs; was easier to recess the pipes upstairs as it was chipboard floor, simple tap of hammer and flat screwdriver to break the floor between pipe and wall

    All steel radiators; all four bracket wall fixings regardless of there size, the double layer tall one in the hall weights an absolute ton, myself and my father were bet lifting it up on to the four brackets and that was before filling the system too.

    Also if recessing pipes; I highly recommend purchasing a sample pot of bright red paint for around one euro and paint the wall where the pipes are inside;
    Then tell the person fitting the skirting boards not to nail anywhere that you see red. Gets covered by the skirting board anyway.

    Aren't all radiators hung from walls?

    Traditional cast iron Victorian radiators had four legs like a dog

    I got an alu radiator off www.theradiatorshop.ie in Donegal.
    Happy with it, no probs with delivery. I have no connection to the business, just a customer.

    Shopping around for radiators is a smart move.
