water pressure

    Hi Guys,

I am looking a little help.

when the outside tap is turned ON the water pressure in the house drops off, it is noticeable, likewise when the outside tap is running, if the kitchen tap is turned ON the pressure on the outside tap drops off.

Also if in the shower, mains fed not pumped and someone turs on a tap or the washing machine kicks in to start to fill it would scald the bejasus out of ya.

this is not just after starting it has been like this for a while, but with kids and so on in the house I would like to try and fix it, or reduce the effects.

House is fed off mains, the pressure is good until more than one tap is used together.

is there anything that can be done?

    thanks,
    Mick.

First call is to Irish Water (01)7072828 for a pressure check.
But to be honest their response will probably be that if it's filling your attic tank sufficiently then it's fine and that you shouldn't have Anything other than your cold kitchen tap and cold water storage tank in the attic connected to the incoming mains supply.
    So, what's your solution..
First, change your electric shower out for one that takes water Directly from the attic tank. That will sort that problem out.
Then either live with the rest of the problems or get a pump installed to boost the mains water, but that will only be as successful as the water supply coming in to feed the pump. Then the fitting of a pump on the mains goes against water regulations unless you can get written permission from Irish Water to do so.

That's doesn't sound right. I'd start of first by checking that there isn't some valve partially closed, or some restriction in the line, or some undersized pipe feeding the system. As you increase the flwe you will expect the pressure to drop, that's the laws of physics basically. But not as you described.

thanks for the replies guys, yea i dont know what it going on with the system, i can see the pipe coming into the house, the heavy black hydrodare pipe i would call it, but is does look small, alittle larger than a hose pipe, but to change that would be a huge job would it not.
i dont have a water meter fitted, they never came around to my area, could it be as you say the gate valve is not fully open? are those old valves 1/4 turn or are they gate valves and need to be screwed out as far as they go to be open fully?

Check if your water meter is spinning when all the taps are closed

You say the shower is 'mains fed', that would be very unusual. Surely both H & C are fed from the tank?
