Understanding my details

Hi all, I’m looking to understand how my particular details are stored. I am listed on my spouses claim as an adult dependent.

What I am wondering, is am I the person, listed? Allow me to explain.

On two Separate occasions I have had to visit the offices and both times was met with “sorry we can’t help.”

    1. I needed proof of income for bank - the lady in SW Office said she couldn’t give me that as I’m listed on my other half’s claim. Now, my name isn’t on the weekly slip, so that was no use and neither was this lady. So I couldn’t get any proof in my name at all. She refused to give me a letter as claim isn’t in my name.

    2. Other half lost his card, I went to SW office to see if I could collect as he had no card. She typed my pps into system and said “there’s nothing here for your pps at all”. So that was a no.

So I just don’t understand, both my name & pps seem to not exist or have anything attached? Is that right? Like am I literally just listed as +1 on his claim? None of my details?
I thought our details would be linked but it seems like mine aren’t even in use?

No, your details are in use. They are used to calculate the amount of benefit due to him. But it's his benefit; you're not entitled to it; you can't collect it. You can't get any proof of your income from the Department because you don't have any income from the Department. Your spouse does, but they won't give proof of his income to you.

Thanks, I get that but just when the lady said “there’s nothing here for your pps” I wondered if my pps isn’t listed as active by itself or something like that?
Like, as I say, my name & pps aren’t on anything as regards the weekly slip and evidently not in their computers. But you mean, they are on a paper file somewhere Or just on his claim details?

In effect, if he had asked for a letter for the bank on my behalf of proof of MY income (being I have one as a dependent) would my details be available for that? Like, then is he allowed to get letter stating my details?

    Sorry

No. I think she probably just meant "you're asking for proof of income; you have no income associated with your PPS".

I don't know the mechanics. Your PPS is certainly associated with his claim at some point in the system, because he's claiming you as a dependent and they need to record that so that nobody else can simultaneously claim you as a dependant.

You don't have any income; that's why your a dependant. Both the basic amount and the additional dependant's allowance are his income, payable to him.

If he asks for proof of your income from the Department they'll tell him "no" because your income is your business, not his. But if they were to give him a statement of your income from the Department it would show "nil", because you aren't getting any income from the Department.

If he asks for evidence of his income from the Department, he'll get a statement showing the amount he gets, including the dependant's allowance. As to whether that statement will identify you as the dependent with by your name and PPS number, I don't know. I suspect not.

That’s what I’m thinking. I basically was told by bank “maybe best if you set your own claim up so at least you have proof of income”.
Given what a pain that would be ....
    thanks for the reply!

Basically the bank aren't going to give you a loan on the basis that somebody else is in receipt of income because of their relationship to you. They might give a loan to him on that basis, or to the two of you jointly. But not to you alone.
