Wondering why Portuguese laurel trees are not doing well. Some thriving, some suffering in same hedge. Some of the leaves are dehydrated and yellowish, yet the soil is moist. Any ideas?

A very dry April is most likely to blame. I’ve heard many stories.

Try give them a feed of nitrogen and watch they are well watered but well drained. They don’t like standing in water

    When were they planted?

Older leaves naturally yellow and drop but if it's a uniform yellowing then drought or lack of nitrogen are often the cause.

My Portuguese Laurel was in the same state, I fed them with a small bit of 10 10 20 mid April. I've given the hedge a good watering since (every 2/3 days when it was dry) and it has made a huge difference, nice and green and flowering.

There's an article on this very issue in the examiner. Their expert advising its likely a fungus build up and suggests a drenching of a mix of copper sulphate with water.
