Right Turn Yellow Box Problem

If I'm on the South Circular Rd at the top of the queue to turn right, and the lights change to green, what should I do in this situation?.

Stay where you are till it clears beyond the yellow box for you to turn.

The problem seems to be caused by the blue car who shouldn't have entered the box without being able to clear it.
    .

Even if the blue car isnt there, unless you're on a motorbike, there isnt room for you to turn and stop between the taxi and the yellow box.

Unless something is holding up the traffic (ie not the lights further down the hill) or the pedestrian lights at the shops go red at the wrong time (from your pov) , the traffic usually clears and a few cars at least get to turn before the lights go red again.

I once heard "if you can't clear it,don't go near it".

That junction is a complete cluster****!

Not helped by the pedestrian lights 50 metres up the road, and the other major junction 25 metres beyond that, none of which seem to operate in any sort of co-operative sequence.

The rule, as far as I understand it, is that you can enter a yellow box if you intend turning right - but that doesn't really apply if you're at the lights waiting to turn right at this junction.

In reality, I would only ever enter that box if there's room left where the blue car is, so that you're not blocking cross traffic if those lights go green.

Although you'd often see cars hooking left and then right to try and pile up without blocking the junction.

But I think that yellow box is aimed more at the traffic coming from your right or left (as shown in the picture), wanting to turn right off those roads.

A green light means you may proceed "if the way is clear"

It does not give a motorist an absolute right to proceed.

So if someone is causing an obstruction, just roll your eyes up and wait.
