I created a thread a couple of weeds ago but one of the mods decided i had got info though i have not.
Has anyone here got a letter to say their driving license has been extender.
I have not and need a license to travel abroad next month.
I spent hours onto ndls and its closed, i also sent them emails to get automated replies.
I sent email to Ministers office this morning to get automated reply.

I emailed the place i am visiting this morning and asked what i need.
I got reply in less than 2 hours confirming i need letter confirming extension.

    Many thanks...t

Has anyone here got a letter to say their driving license has been extender.

No, I have had no such letter.

Nobody is getting a letter, the same with the extension on the NCT.

I have a letter for the NCT extension. Keep in handy in the car on the sunvisor.

Wake me up when it's all over.

I hoped that in your last thread maestroamado it was made clear that no such letter will be sent out.

Or you can refer them to https://www.ndls.ie/, see the middle option.

The NDLS centres are physically open. Have you tried walking in and asking the person at the front desk on how you would arrange this letter? It would certainly save you hours on hold waiting for someone to answer the phone.
Sending emails is not getting you what you want, phone calls have been unanswered so your only option is to walk in at this stage... Like I suggested in your previous thread on this topic.
Here is where you can get a list of the NDLS centres: https://www.ndls.ie/how-to-apply/applying-in-person.html#centre-locations

Failing that, you could try and direct your query to the RSA, although I am not sure if this would fall within their remit.

In any case, I do not believe you will get a letter for this so might just be out of luck.

    Thanks for info...
I had intended doing as you suggested in your post but someone said later that it was by appointment only so it was just left for a few days.
I will hopefully get a reply from ministers office, i did get through to a receptionist and she said she would send an email and took my details.
She was lovely and told me the whole thing was a complete mess.
I had assumed there be a document as we had to attend for a half an NCT test last year so we had document to confirm this.
It's absolutely crazy that the department cannot send a letter to confirm an official document is valid.
I did not realize until what i read here now that it was never the intention to send out a letter confirming what's on-line.
afaik all civil servants are working so easy to set automated system for license that be expiring or if not just type up a letter for each individual as they all have computers if working at home.

Leaving a driving license to LUCK is not what we should be about...

    regards....

I got an email about mine. It was due last may and extended by 7 months but was further extended until 1st July 2021.

    This is it:

    Dear Driving Licence Holder

We are writing to tell you about a change in the expiry date of your driving licence.

Expiry date extended until 1 July 2021

During 2020 we extended the expiry date of your driving licence or categories thereon, by seven months, which had been due to expire between 1 March and 31 May 2020. We are extending the expiry date again, and the new expiry date is 1 July 2021.

Do I have to get a new driving licence?

No, you don’t need a new licence. We have automatically updated your licence record and it shows the new expiry date. We have also told Insurance Ireland and An Garda Síochána about the new expiry date of driving licences.

When can I renew my driving licence?

You can only renew your driving licence within three months of the new expiry date. You cannot renew it earlier than this. To check the new expiry date, enter the expiry date printed on your driving licence or categories thereon into the expiry date calculator on www.ndls.ie.

How do I renew my driving licence?

When your driving licence is due for renewal, you can renew it online on www.ndls.ie. To renew it online, you must have a Public Services Card (PSC) and a verified MyGovID account. You will get more information about a PSC at www.mywelfare.ie and about a verified MyGovID account at www.mygovid.ie.

I have already booked an appointment at an NDLS centre to renew my licence. What should I do?

If your appointment is not within three months of the new expiry date, you should cancel the appointment to make it available for others who need it.

I have already posted my driving licence renewal application. What happens now?

Unfortunately, we may not be able to process your application if our system is already showing the new expiry date of your driving licence. If you sent us original supporting documents, we will return these to you with a refund where applicable.

I received a penalty point disqualification notification that advised the disqualification would commence on first holding a licence. Does the extension affect this?

Yes, the disqualification will commence 28 days after issue of the notification as your licence is extended.

Are the expiry dates of learner permits also being extended?

The expiry dates of learner permits are not being extended at present.

    Yours sincerely,
    National Driver Licence Service

I got both a letter and an email to say my licence is being extended

    See text below for email>

    Dear Driving Licence Holder,

We are writing to tell you about a change in the expiry date of your driving licence.

Expiry date extended by 10 months

How do I check what the new expiry date is?

You can check the new expiry date of your driving licence by using the expiry date calculator on www.ndls.ie. Enter the expiry date printed on your driving licence or categories thereon into the calculator and it will tell you the new expiry date.

Its clear from your message that your extension applies only to Ireland and even though we are EU members for the license to be valid in the EU the name of the license holder need to be on whatever document provided.
I know this as this is what i was advised when i asked...

    Why would you think that...

A driving licence is an internationally recognised licence, a letter is not.

Do send this info to the the car hiring place, maybe they'll accept it.

Thanks guys that confirmed the is indeed a communication about the extension.

I know all of that, i also know that the Irish Government have duty to provide me with an internationally recognoised document to compliment my currant license which they have said will be delivered in the coming days.
I had said in my original post the car-hire company asked for this, it will be fine as they would have my original license on-file.
I had a lot of trouble to get which is not the way to do business but i will have it hopefully.
I do not think people will get this document unless they go looking for same as not necessary, not sure what the story with NI but i assume the PSNI have been advised....
All is well that ends well....
