NCT added 100k to mileage

Passed my NCT this afternoon, they drive the car out to you in the yard now with Covid and I got in and drove home without looking at the document. They misread the odomoter as 270k not 170k. Rang them up to be told I'll have to go back but not enough time this evening before closing and upto my eyes in work this week. Might be able to take another half day Wednesday or Thursday. Would that suffice or would they deal with my wife if she brought it up instead?

Is it in miles or km? May have just converted it to km from Miles - 170k miles = approx 273k km

I says on the nct report to check the odometer reading as errors cannot be rectified later

Supposedly if you don’t point it out on the spot then there’s nothing they can do. It is highlighted in big writing to check the odometer is correct.

It happened to me before but I noticed just as I was about to drive away. They fixed it no problem

Can't stand this carelessness on behalf of service providers. Measure twice, cut once is how I was brought up. Fully understand the vehicle owner should check on exiting, but the problem lies squarely with NCT in this scenario.

Not so! The problem lies squarely with the OP, it's the responsibility for it that lies with the NCT.

    Okay. I'll rephrase it.
Can't stand shoddy workmanship from service providers.

    Indeed.
I also brought a car to get an NCT, and was horrified to discover that they don't disinfect the car after the test, like after a service.

Spent ages wiping it all down with the doors open and my indoors mask on.
I certainly didn't have time to be checking for their mistakes.

Incidentally, why are they even doing NCTs? They are not essential. We survived many years without NCTs. Of course, money.

They deferred them for four months. The missus is bringing it up first thing in the morning, I've got school run and work. Was in a rush to get home and logged in to wfh to make up the time. Surely they'll see from last year's reading that I hardly drove 110k+ during a bloody pandemic. Worst case scenario is it affects resale? I'm not planning to sell this car but its bloody annoying.

Glad somebody else brought this up as I was always curious about it...

I can remember many moons ago, upon passing the test and getting the cert, the NCT guy said "check the mileage". I didn't take a lot of notice at the time - just happy to pass...but thought about it later...was he suggesting the car was clocked or something, why would I need to check the mileage as I owned the car from new and knew it was genuine?

So, I'm guessing they manually read the odometer and enter the mileage into the system and it prints on the cert. If they entered the wrong number then I'm kinda with Fann Linn here and it's careless on their behalf. Should we have to check the VIN, Reg, Make and Model etc. as well?

Is there no electronic way to read the mileage so there is no chance of an incorrect entry?

Noticed this week that when I passed my NCT few weeks ago they'd put the mileage in as miles instead of km (208k miles instead of 208k km). I had failed on the handbrake the week before so still have that sheet with mileage shown in km correctly so can always show that if I'm selling but bit of a silly mistake to make as it says km in large letters on the odometer!

We moved some things and I went out myself first thing. No issue sorting it out. Getting new documentation in the post.
    thanks all

I'd argue that they are essential as there is a portion of the population that do nothing to their car apart from fill it with fuel between NCTs. These people don't check oil, tires, tire pressure, or bother getting it serviced until each NCT rolls around (or even until it fails something on the NCT)
