08 Avensis blower issue

Morning folks. 08 Avensis, I have an issue with the blower.

When the blower is on full, despite being able to hear the fan and feel air when I put my hands to the vents, it's not as strong as I would expect.

Searching online, the only thing that seems to come up is the blower only working on high, suggesting a resistor is gone. This is not the issue I have.

Any advice or pointers greatly appreciated

Check your pollen filter is clean, when there are very dirty they will restrict airflow through the vents as they are usually located right before where the fan blower pulls in air, dirty filter=less air being pulled in which means less air flow through the vents. The filter is usually located behind the glove box and often quite easy to reach

    Another check.

Can you hear the blower/air increase in "strength". IOW does it blow harder as you cycle through the blower settings?

Where is the direction setting at? If its at the demist/windscreen see if the air is blowing that direction and at what strength then change to say face or feet and see if it blows as strong in that direction.

Could be the motor flap is not changing/moving so the air is not being directed to where you want it.

I was worried that the issue was with the flaps, but the output was the same regardless, and I could hear the fan increase as I turned up the speed.

Checked the pollen filter. Good call BlakeS94. There seems to be a site issue with posting pictures, so I can't show you just how filthy it is

It will definitely help installing a new filter so, note the air flow on new filter should have an arrow on the side, that arrow should be pointing towards the fan blower as the fan sucks air in through the middle and blows it out the sides. Glad I could help you out

Reminds me that recently I was showing the young lad how to service his car. Went to do the pollen filter and told him to take the old one out. He was at it 15 minutes so i told him to let me do it and he said he couldn't seem to find it. Looked in and the cabin for the pollen filter was empty. No filter, just a ton of debris, and dirt.

I mean who takes one out to leave it empty?

Yeah, ran it with no filter, night and day difference. Only have the car about a year, gave it a service when I got it. Even cleaned out the egr valve, never even thought of doing the pollen filter.

By the looks of it, it was missed at more than one service

Yeah those filters are often overlooked, id run it without the filter until you get a new one, sometimes it's an easy fix and we get lucky
