    Rubecula, flaneur of the universe

I met him in Dublin one, once!

He lived on an island over there,

and countless others everywhere and inhere.

Bless him. He introduced me to the better pronunciation of 'buggah' and I can still use it but only when strictly necessary of course!! 😄 It might be a good idea for us and others to find the beginnings of his posts and re-read them, just for the joy of it!!

I'm sorry to hear about Rubes. I think he joined this forum shortly after me. He was a very engaging sort!

Anyone else afraid to read anything today because of the date?

I think I could take top prize for curmudgeon in this years Olympics, just saying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,641 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

I've always loved the Olympics. Not a big sports type, hated GAA and football so the Olympics brought a rare opportunity to see some of the lesser known sports on the telly. Moreso for the Winter Olympics. It led to my (still ongoing) indulgence in archery and some shooting. If we had the climate I'd have been on the Luge or the bobsleighs, any of the downhill ice sliding sports.

There are two olympians in the extended family, not winners yet for me a competitor is still to be just as fated. One for sailing and one for fencing. I'm not sure why that should make me proud but it does and I am.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

You are an archer Old Goat? So was I in the 70s and 80s. I was involved in starting a couple of clubs, and taught the basics for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,641 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

Yeah, I've been shooting for decades. I am now at the "Master Archer" status although that accolade is awarded by age rather than actual skills. :) I shoot mostly Olympic style* though I love instinctive and field archery too.

*For non archers thats using the bow with all the sticky out rods on it so that it looks like a bit of a space satellite.

Sleep seems to be an 'auld wan' issue all right….😏

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭Jellybaby_1

Strangely enough I'm sleeping soundly these nights, at least 6 hours, which is very unlike me. Normally I'm a 4 hour sleeper and then I wake up shattered.

Nice to see real humans here again! 🙂 It's been so quiet!!

I've been having a lot of sleep problems, but mostly down to sleep apnoea and the cpap mask and machine. I think they are mostly resolved, hopefully. There is a good bit of discussion about sleep here. I don't normally send people somewhere else to discuss something but that is a dedicated forum.

When O&O started - many years ago now (2011) efforts were made to make anonymous posting available so that people could discuss problems relating to old age. I am willing to be corrected, but I don't think this was ever made use of, and any attempt to discuss age related issues was greeted with something on the lines of -we don't want to think about our problems, we come here for a bit of fun. Which is fine, but that's the way it has been from the start, and that's why I am suggesting a forum that deals specifically with sleep.

Anyway, its time I gave up on screen time and went to bed to read for a bit…😁

Fairly certain I've undiagnosed sleep apnea, I better get on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,517 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Head over to that link. If you think you have it get it checked out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,176 ✭✭✭✭Deja Boo

@looksee, since Vanilla I can't navigate boards and find anything. I didn't know there was a sleep forum, thanks for the link.

Sorry for going off topic and doing an O&O downer, it wasn't my intention. Cheers.

Oh heavens Deja Boo, I did not in any way intend to suggest you were either ot or doing a downer, I think your question was entirely reasonable, I was just trying to explain why you had not got much in the way of an answer, and where you might get one. I am sorry I came over that way.

And yes, I agree about navigating the site, I don't know how anyone new finds anything at all.

I usually stick to my favourite forums (fora) and only occasionally stray to others if a subject is of interest, but I usually stay with familiar territory. Would I be wrong in saying that we can no longer use tiny fonts? This had been used a lot here in the past and was often times hilarious in certain posters posts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,517 ✭✭✭✭looksee

I'm not aware of any way of using tiny fonts JB,

though you can do that as a heading, its not very manageable though. (you click on the para sign on the left of the text box then click the first thingy called H1 to H5 for different sized headers). I have never seen anyone use it and can't imagine why you would want to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭Jellybaby_1

A certain poster who is still lurking, and our dear old friend Rube who is no longer with us, used to use small fonts, more as a whisper, or an aside, or a joke. I don't see any H1 or H5 at all!!?

    *OG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,517 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Oh you are right, there is no H1.

    Trying a little experiment

That works but I don't think you can do one word

No, you can't. H5 is the bottom one, my first altered sentence.

To do one word you need to select it, then zoom in (if you're on the phone) and click on B for bold. For italics you can do the same and press I or you just need to type an asterisk before and after the word with no spaces.

Those are not done with the bubble that has bold, italic etc, New Home, they are done with the H2 series in the para section on the left of the reply box. You can't control the boldness, or do just one word, it changes font size and boldness of an entire line without selecting it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, Looksee. Yes, I'm aware of the headers and the fact that they are fixed, I was only suggesting an alternative option for modifying the look of normal text. :o)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭Jellybaby_1

I'm using a desktop computer, bigger screen is better for me.

Bold Italics Crossthrough Brackets………AHAH!! THERE IT IS!!!!

    WooHoo!!
