Hard to tell with the camouflage, but it looks like the ID.4 without the best aesthetics of the id.4... the rear.

Yeah it's called the Sportback style SUV

ID.4 with less boot space. Might be more efficient though with better aerodynamics

So far we've got from the ID lineup:

    ID.3 - Golf
    ID.4 - Tiguan
    ID.5 - ???
    ID.6 - Tiguan Allspace

Ineresting to think about what's coming next, they've a few numbers yet to fill

    ID.1 - Up/Polo?
    ID.2 - T-Cross/T-Roc?

    ID.7 - Passat/Arteon plus an estate version?
    ID.8 - Maybe a Toureg equivalent?
ID.9 - The Buzz (AKA, the one everyone wants)

The buzz is vw's first electric that will attract singles ,couples, families and even older couple's travelling around

    Its just so cool

Yeah I really hope they don't change too much from the concept

The ID.3 ended up being a bit more down to earth than the concept but I think it retained enough of its coolness

Ironically I wasn't a fan of the ID.Crozz and think the ID.4 was a step up

I imagine there'll be a launch edition Buzz which is close to the concept (for all your money) and probably a more normal looking version to follow on

The Embargo has been lifted and the ID.5 has now been presented.

Volkswagen and VAG certainly have a comprehensive range of EVs available now although they need something below the ID.3 to stop the Chinese and PSA getting a foothold in the market.

What is also clear from the other ID models Enyaq and Audi models is that if you have a dealership network you can push all the cars you can produce to the market.

"Unusually for a coupe-SUV, Volkswagen has also managed to make the ID.5’s boot a little bigger than its ID.4 sibling – at least up to the level of the parcel shelf. There’s 549 litres of space, which is six litres more than you get in the ID.4.

Volkswagen has also launched a new version of its MEB software on the ID.5, which not only adds more infotainment functions and improves the car’s Travel Assist system, but also increases the maximum charging capability to 135kW DC compared with 120kW systems in earlier versions of the ID.3 and ID.4. This means the ID.5 can charge to 80 per cent capacity in 26 minutes, which is nine minutes faster than its siblings. Volkswagen will soon roll out this improvement across the rest of the ID. range, too."

9 minutes faster is a lot more than I expected. That charging curve would be very interesting to see. Still no word on the 175kW upgrade though.

The infotainment really lets these cars down I think.

Interior of the ID4 is lovely until you hit the screens, they just look so ugly.

I know realistically when driving you're not going to constantly be at them but it's hard to get past I find.

Damn I thought this was the Passat equivalent but it's more to the ID4 what the T-Roc is to the Tiguan?

I like the look of it though, even though they call it a gammy SUV it doesn't really look like one to me.

I prefer the look of this to the ID.4 but would still not be on my list to buy. Will be interesting to see the pricing in comparison to the other models though. I can't see it being the same as the ID.4 and will likely be a little more expensive.

    7 seconds ! Hmm

    Bidirectional charging

    Self parking

"Interesting detail: While at the premiere of the ID.5 there was already talk of an increased DC charging power of 135 kW with a flatter charging curve, in the current announcement VW confirms the 135 kW only for the two rear-wheel-drive variants. According to this, the ID.5 GTX will even be able to charge with a peak charging power of 150 kW – and thus, in an ideal case, power for 100 kilometres in six minutes."

I believe that the 135Kw charging with flatter curve will be coming to id3 and Id4 also (although 1st editions might need a trip to the dealer first)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,425 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Correct, they need to update some of the ECUs as they can't currently be updated over the air

It's nice to know that they're still trying to push the charging speeds higher. Although once it hits 150kW then we've basically maxed out 95% of the chargers in Ireland

It's not just 1st editions, any car that got 2.3 OTA will need to visit the dealer for the manual ECUs update and the 12v replacement in order to get 3.0. Pretty much means every ID car on the market at the moment as I haven't heard of anyone in Ireland receiving their ID.3 or ID.4 with 2.3 pre installed (open to be corrected on this).

The ID.5 is due to be released with 3.0 so not an issue for it.

Anyone hear any more on the ID5 release dates? Is the car in Ireland yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭Skygord

I went into Western Motors (Galway) today. He said he's open to taking orders for ID.5, and expect delivery in May/June. I'm tempted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭hold my beer

Did he say anything about price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭Skygord

a few cents under €60k for the 'basic' version - PRO I think it's called.

But it isn't basic at all - 77kWH battery, panoramic sunroof, AR HUD display, voice control.

He said they'd start to be produced I think March/April, delivery May/June.

I ordered an ID.5 a couple of weeks ago. Was a dealer order that was available. Already had a scheduled production date.

Haven't seen too much chat about them in general. Anyone else ordered?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,253 ✭✭✭hold my beer

What price? I'll probably order one next year if I can.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,425 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Well it's basically an ID 4 with a bigger booty. So all the same stuff applies

Are they only doing the ID 5 in the GTX? If so you'll benefit from the faster charging speed, not to mention the 300hp AWD 😁

No there are the same line up of models as the ID.4 except the entry level is the business trim. I just ordered entry level as it's the only one that quifies for the grant. I test drove an ID.4 GTX and while the 300bhp was fun, it's not something I need..All the standard ones come with 135kW DC charging.

Anyone got the ID5 brochure & price list - the vw site simply says 'coming soon'?

Seen my first ID.5 in the flesh last weekend... very very similar to the ID.4, so don't really get the point of these, other than for VW to continue selling big SUV sized EV's....

I'd need to see a few more of them, and from different angles to decide which I like more, the 4 or the 5....

Seen a lovely Red one in D12 parked up. Must say it looks good

Does 60K not seem like a lot to pay for a car??

Do people just have 60K sitting in their Bank account ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,318 ✭✭✭Miscreant

A lot of people finance the cars using PCP/HP. I doubt many of the new cars you see on the road (EV or not) have been paid for in cash. But yes, €60k is a lot for a car and I struggle to see the value in them once they go much over €40k TBH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭mailforkev

Not really sure why they used up the ID.5 name for these when it’s just an ID.4 with a slightly revised rear. Surely 5 should have been kept for a different model? Is it just as cynical as 5 is higher than 4 so they can charge a few grand more?

Skoda and Audi don’t waste names and just use Sportback or Coupe for their versions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,569 ✭✭✭eagerv

A year ago I would have said anything over €40K is madness for a family car, but things have changed. I wouldn't have paid almost €50K for my Model 3 in March had my previous ID.3 not had zero depreciation. I still wouldn't pay over €60K for an ID.5 now, however nice a car it is..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,367 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

It's the same for ICE cars. A decent Golf, Focus etc are all north of €30k and easily €40k in higher spec now. An Ibiza FR is north of €30k too. Mental.

I was looking at used Id.5 tech models and it looks like they’re missing equipment based on the 2022 brochure. From what I can see, the seats are standard and not the power version with massage. Also the reverse camera doesn’t seem to have area view.

Does anyone know the reason for this? I’m guessing it might have been a supply issue but it doesn’t seem to have affected similar spec ID.4s from the time.

It looks like there were ‘Launch Edition’ of some ID.5 models which were missing some features due to chip shortages back in 2022. I haven’t found any details of the spec differences.
