Lads, anyone know what the VAT rate is on buying a farm dog off a breeder? Can't seem to find anything definitive online about it...

Good luck with getting a VAT rate or a receipt off someone breedinb or selling dogs.
Make sure you have the dog in your car and its IKC/Vax shot papers in your hand before you ask for it.

The same as the VAT rate on any livestock you buy privately I'd say.
Most won't be vat registered so won't be charging vat.

Dog breeding is standard rate so I would reckon that one would apply.
it may be covered under livestock however the notes on that seem explicit (Means live cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and deer)

Ah, was just looking at the terms on an online auction and it says that bidding prices are ex VAT. Don't want to get stung for an extra 23%....

Are you in the North, those auctions are usually in the UK.

Contact the mart and they should be able to tell you what the rate and commission etc. is, commission adds on a good bit too.

Standard Rate so 23% at moment

That's if the breeder is vat registered
