    The new daily numbers thread

    Mod warnings:
    1. Please interact in a civil manner
    2. Do not tell others what to do, or what to post
    3. It is against site rules to seek or offer any medical advice. Please do not post here about your symptoms asking what to do. Contact your doctor by telephone and they can advise you as appropriate
    4. If you have a problem with a post report it and leave the modding to the mods

    In terms of thread content:
    • Treat everything you read here with caution. Anything posted is from an anonymous internet poster. You cannot assume anyone has any "specialist" knowledge whatever they claim
    • Statistics are important to some (and I personally pay a lot of attention to them), but they are of very little use to anyone who is already caught up in this, or indeed knows of people who are caught up
    • Whatever your own views are please recognise others are entitled to different views., Even if at different extremes please do not try and repeatedly ram your views down the throats of those who have differing views
    • Cut out any cover-up/conspiracy stuff. If you have a reliable source quote it (not just their words but provide a link to a reliable source) - otherwise your claims carry little if any weight. If you wish to discuss conspiracy theories we have a dedicated forum for that and it’s not this one
    • If the likes of the HSE have a verified Twitter account we can assume what they post is accurate. Randomers on here or elsewhere cannot be considered "official" or "reliable" sources
    • If people wish to flout the restriction rules that is up to them. They cannot complain at the consequences, be that direct action from the authorities, exposure in Social Media (not here) or being shunned by locals, friends, family etc. If they post about it here, or encourage others to flout the rules, trying to appear macho, or thinking they are above the rules or simply being a smart arse, posting privileges will be removed
    • If you don't want to see discussion about Trump perhaps stay clear of this thread between the hours of 22:00 and 01:00. This is a thread for "breaking news" so please do not expect posters to discuss things happening "now" in other threads. It's not discouraged but equally posters expect to discuss such issues in this thread (added 14/04/20)
    • There is absolutely no good reason to try and forecast or predict daily numbers, so do not do so
    • It should be noted that this is the main thread for Covid-19 discussion in the forum. Naturally there will be some overlap with other topics that have dedicated threads. For more in-depth discussion these threads should be used but discussing as an eg; schools or vaccinations which occurs naturally in the course of discussion is perfectly fine in this thread too.
    • Drop the cervical cancer discussion - if you want to discuss it, go and start a thread on it in an appropriate forum. Doing it here will get you threadbanned, there have been more than enough mod warnings over it at this point.

    Added 09/12/21
We get the fact some of you bare dissatisfied with the performance of the Chief Medical Officer, NEPHT, members of the Government and indeed some of the experts you may pay attention to on TV, radio or indeed the print media

We also get the fact that some of you like to let off steam in this and indeed other threads in the forum

However repeatedly stating your dislike/hatred of such people and abusing them here is not only irritating to posters who like to interact in a civil manner, but it's also highly offensive to the individuals in question. Can posters just refrain from resorting to such commentary as it not going to achieve anything beyond winding up (ie trolling) other users and attracting mod attention

I am copying this warning into the Relaxation of Restrictions thread. but it applies equally across the forum

All threadbans carry over, but we will reconsider if anyone wishes to discuss it further via PM

I'd say we'll squeeze a start out of the 36th anyway.

Just need plenty of healthy uninformed debate from the good denizens of boards.

    What is an outlier anyway?

There probably will be. People will be talking about this for a while yet. Even after it burns down to an ember.

    A few head cases will.

Most will be busy getting back on with their lives I’d say.

Travelled to a nice lake side walk across the county. Garda asked us the reason for travel. It was within 20 kms, no issues.

The Guards will find it difficult to give up all that power.
And NPHET will be devastated not to get to be on the telly, and doctors will miss the overtime, and retired people will be disappointed to have no one to twitch their curtains at, and people working from home will miss the cushiness of not having to commute, and those living in their basements will cry into their soup when there's no high case numbers to give them the horn, and teachers will miss their full salaries while not having to go into class, and boardsies will miss explaining the same points ad nauseum... F*ck it, should we just keep the virus?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,259 ✭✭✭FintanMcluskey

    It’s handy policing

The most amusing thing I seen was the N4 checkpoint

I was working in Dublin at the time and the checkpoint often added an hour to my commute in December when Ireland was on level 3 (I think)with inter county travel allowed.

When I returned to work in January with Ireland on level 5, with no inter county allowed, the checkpoint had disappeared.

Twas handy over time before Christmas and they had no issue who had serious delays while trying to earn a living

Sorry I'm just a bit annoyed. I haven't visited my family in ages as I'm abiding by the restrictions. I was feeling a bit down today over it. My neighbour had a big party last night abd now there is another one going on. Its a bit annoying when your trying to do the right thing and it can be hard to make sacrifices and then people just throw parties. It actually makes me feel lonely today been able to hear the party as I'm missing my family but then I talk to friends etc and they are also abiding by the restrictions. Its just hard when you can hear it

    What was that address again?

They should be lined up and shot for having the audacity to enjoy themselves. I think it's heartening that some are not looking for permission to live on their terms. And you'll be hearing a lot more of those feelgood stories as summer unfolds. Back to normality then, as for busybodies gawping over the hedge - these are easily ignored.

It's not gawping over the hedge. I not interested in their sad party. Obviously I see the cars and people going in and out. Some people try and do the right thing so thr lockdown will work. People have made huge sacrifice s to help save lives. It's normal people will get annoyed when they see others don't care. These are not young ones. They are middle aged

The lockdown doesn’t work long term, the only thing that works is the vaccine

It’s important to remember Irish citizens have been the globes most suppressed for 13 months, they deserve to be cut some slack.

The government failed in their remit to protect the vulnerable, in nursing and care homes, however they cleverly gaslighted the Irish people into blaming each other for deaths of vulnerable in those places like your doing

Was just saying its hard to know it's going on slll the time. Lock downs do work. Look at India. We would have been just like India if we didn't go into lockdown as we have a third world health care system. If people don't mix the virus can't spread. It's very simple

We are the most suppresses because we have the worst health care system

Some amount of hyperbole there. Look at India and you see what a third world health system is like.

The Guards will find it difficult to give up all that power.

The only ones who will find it difficult are those hell bent on promotion, the vast majority of members have no interest in implementing those ridiculous laws.
