Shower not working plumber or electrician?

Hi,

Shower stopped working and no power light coming on. When I opened it up it looks like a leak from the water pipe must have blown something. Probably need to get the unit replaced. It over 10 years old so I think possibly a new one might be best way to go.

Not sure if anyone has had this issue, also would it be a plumber or an electrician I would need to get in?

There are shower repair specialists, what part of country are you in ? 10 years isn't bad going but I'd expect a few more years. You could search agents for your brand for starters, they generally have access to installers.

It's a power shower rather than an electric shower. You'll find it difficult to find an electrician to replace this I would think. Plumber is most likely what you'll end up with. Id prefer to have an electrician look it over afterwards. Most older power showers aren't installed correctly. Plumbers tap into sockets or lights for power. This is unsafe & illegal. Shower should have an impedance test too.

B&Q & screwfix sell the uk version without an Irish warranty. Your local plumbing trade counter is best. Heatmerchants, DPL, Chadwicks etc

Would you mind explaining this warranty difference. Is there no warranty through B&Q or is it an inferior warranty

B&Q, screwfix etc import the triton as2000sr. It's identical to the triton novel SR only a different front cover. It's not supposed to be sold in Ireland. Triton UK offers a 12 months UK only warranty. The Triton novel SR is for the Irish Market. All triton novel SR showers are sold through Earthridge (sort of triton Ireland) Earthridge offer a 2 years warranty here in Ireland for the novel but no warranty on the as2000sr.

B&Q have no engineers to repair under warranty. Buying a UK model that fails after 6 months you may have to pay someone to remove the shower from your wall to bring back to B&Q to be sent to the UK to be repaired. You could be without a shower for a month or more. You then have to get the repaired shower installed again at your own expense.

It's far simpler buying from an Irish retailer. A quick Google search & I find them from 250 euro.

sent a plumper the details and got a price and time for replacement etc and he has bunked on me twice. He hadnt even bought the kit. Back to going out and sorting it myself again and just get plumber in for the job itself. Know wonder plumbers have a bad name

I take it your not a fan of the mira;s. I have other miras in the house also

Mira vigour has 12 months warranty and the triton novel SR has 24 months. Both showers are roughly the same price. Novel is a silent shower vigour isn't. There is less work involved in installing the Triton compared to the Mira because the Galaxy pipe work is very similar to the triton. There is actually not much wrong with the Mira vigour but the triton novel gives more bang for your bucks

Thanks will look to purchase Triton novel sr today. Will tell you how I get on. Will need to source a plumber as the lad i had let me down twice and once bitten as they say. TBF I wasnt sure which shower he would use to replace the galaxy so this way atleast I know myself what I am getting

postage was free as over 70 euro and another tenner off if 1st time customer. 40 quid cheaper then a local supplier X 2.

The UK use mains fed showers. In Ireland we are not allowed so use tank fed showers. The main difference is the pressure so Irish Ines need a pump.

So a UK shower installer on Ireland will suffer pressure issues.
