Lawnmower Damage

My poor lawnmower - I’ve put it through it’s paces.

I hit a buried angle iron buried in the garden by the previous owner.

    Resulting problems are
    - the nipples that the blade slots onto have been bent a little
    - there’s a rattle in what I think is the flywheel.

Before I open her up, any ideas what damage I could’ve done. Something feels a little out of balance.

    Thanks all.

What engine? B&S have a key in the flywheel that shears when it takes a bad hit.

The blade and blade boss can be replaced (unless its some weirdo brand).

What you need to check is if the crankshaft is still straight. If its bent go no further scrap it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

    Yeah B&S

I let the engine cool, cleaned out the carburettor, reattached the blade to make sure it was straight.

It ran for the remainder of the cut but had a funny rattle.

Thanks for coming back to me. Have somewhere to start the research. Thanks again.

If you find its hard to start then good chance the key in the flywheel needs replacing, if not assume its OK. Often you'll find the key is just dented a bit but that degree of movement of the flywheel can be enough to mess the timing up.

    Perfect. Thank you.

It was hard to start just after I hit it. But I presumed it was overheating. Left it 10 minutes and it started normal enough.

Will check out the key. If it’s dented .... straight forward enough to replace?

I started to write a long explanation but youtube shows it better. Never needed any fancy pullers but rubber mallet very handy. Just be careful not to break any of the fins off the flywheel fan.

Just wanted to say thanks. Worked a treat.

For anyone else who’s reading this post and considering just note that the flywheel but is large ~11/12s or 15/16 I think. Had to borrow a neighbours.

Struggling to find a blade bos as it’s a woodies special. Any company I’ve contacted say they can’t help - inc woodies.
