Capital Cities of the World - PEEHS REVEAL

Welcome to the Capital Cities of the World – PEEHS
    IwlzJye.gif
I divided 193 countries (throughout, by 'country' I mean a sovereign state that is a member of the UN in its own right) in to 8 tiers depending on the difficulty level that I perceived them to be. 24 countries per tier, with one left over. I then randomly took 15 countries from each tier and randomly assigned them to each round. Then I thought that might be too difficult, so I took the remaining 9 Tier 1 countries swapped them in for 9 of the Tier 8 countries. If I’d known then just how good everyone was going to be at this game, I might have left it as it was!

There wasn’t much manipulation. As I said in the sign-up thread, I took out the Democratic Republic of the Congo simply because it didn’t fit in my little box. I also took out several countries where the capital is just too uncertain: Bolivia, Burundi, Eswatini, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania.

    Quick reminder from the OP:

PEEHS is like a game of Pointless. We're looking for the least popular answer here. The winner will be the player with the fewest points at the end. Your score each round will be the number of people who match your answer.

Incorrect answers will score 1.5 times the most popular answer.

Google or other research is not allowed.

It is the official or de jure capital required. A few of the more disputed capital cities have been excluded to avoid controversy.

Spellings do not need to be 100%. If I can figure out what name you're trying to go for, you'll get the point.

    We have 40 players:

Don't think I'll get online for it. In the unlikely event that I win, I've arranged for Anthony Hopkins to give my winning speech by zoom ;)

Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic making up about one-third of the west side.

Qatar will be the first Muslim country and first Arab country to host the FIFA World Cup (assuming it goes ahead) in 2022.

The Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent, and surrounds the Gambia River and is surrounded by Senegal

It's lovely, we went there as part of a package on a three week holiday in 2009. Spent 5 days there, was gorgeous though pints were the equivalent of €14.50 each I think.....

The Marcha Real, the national anthem of Spain, is one of only three national anthems which is entirely instrumental.

Tegucigalpa means "hills of silver" in the Nahuatl language.

And when they tried to write lyrics some years ago, it didn't go well.

Still, it's amusing to see athletes, football players and so look into nothingness when it's played.

Belize was previously known as British Honduras until 1973.

The island of Trinidad is closer to Venezuela (11km) than it is to its twin of Tobago (32km)

Buenos Aires means "good airs" or "fair winds" in Spanish.

Nuku'alofa lies on the island of Tongatapu, one of 36 inhabited islands that make up Tonga.
