Eir FTTH help!

    Hi

I live in a semi D in Dublin. My Eir internet is patchy at best. I discovered that i can avail of Eir FTTH as it's literally in the 'sump/vault thingy' in the grass verge at the roadside outside of my drive. I contacted Eir to get FTTH installed - but the KN engineer who came out to install said that he could only being the fiber to the front pillar and not to the house - so I had to cancel...

I have a cobble lock drive - and I'm told I need to get ducting installed underground and brought to the side of the house (which should be easy as it's a straight line down the inside of a wall. I've searched online for ducting installers but can't seem to find anyone..

Has nyone out there Eir FTTH installed in similar circumstances? would it be easy to do myself? (although I don't have great health due to arthritis and knee replacement). And if I managed to do it - do I have to drill a hole at the side of the house too.

Ideally, I'd like to get an installer to do it for me (at least get a price anyway) - but as I said - I can't seem to find any fiber ducting installers online.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

    DFS

There is no pole outside house and my phone line also comes from the same source (I.e. from the ‘vault/sump thingy’ in the grass verge outside my drive) but it’s armoured cabling and buried in the ground - engineer said this couldn’t be used / new cabling in ducting is required.

DFS UTD would you be able to post a picture or two as it would give a better idea of the layout of your side. Could it be an option to put a pole outside you property and bring the fibre cable overhead to your house ?

sorry, don't know how to post photos - but think of your bog-standard semi d in an estate in Dublin, My drive is cobble locked and I'm attached on the right side of the house to the house next door. I've a dividing wall (abt 2ft) between me and the neighbour on my left. The Eir communications 'vault' is in the grass verge on this neighbours side (so on my left) - I could I think technically run the fiber cable along this wall under the cobblelock and it could be brought into house about where I suspect the existing underground armour plated Eir line comes in.

But the thing is I can't find any works contractor who does this type of fibre optic cabling and Eir (KN engineer) will only install to my drive pillar - so dont know what to do?

I could try doing myself but not in the best health and I've no idea how to bring into house or how it would connect from where the KN engineer brings the fiber connection to the pillar.

Think I'm just gonna have to give up - it's maddening though as the FTTH cabling juction vault is literally less than 10 feet from my driveway pillar....

I'm in contact with a company called Home Broadband Solutions in Gorey about a ducted FTTH install. They seem very knowledgeable and might be worth a try?

You just need a builder/handyman/lad with a reciprocating drill. Dont look for a specialist.

Install wavin pipe/similar from the entrance point to the site and into the house. Put the far end somewhere near power for the ONT/Router. No tight bends is the only requirement, leave space for the fiber to curve gently round. Thats it. Seal it well so rodents dont cause problems.

I had a similar problem with my Eir FTTH, there is no ducting on the property and an overhead wire won't work. The KN engineer gave me the option of getting the ducting installed myself or having their civils team do it for me at a cost (on the day he said it could be up to euro 350). He took some pictures and Eir came back to say that they would charge me Euro 145 to put the ducting in, which I could pay over the 2 years of my contract interest free. KN are now booked to come back next week to put the ducting in and to doe the instalation.

do you mind me asking if you're based in Dublin. When my KN engineer came out - he said he couldn't install to house only to pillar - no option given for civils to do the work
