    Skoda Octavia 1.2 tsi 2013

Failed because could not test emissions. This was because could not hold revs steady on high idle.

In neutral car idles @ 650 rpm

Press throttle to bring revs to 2000rpm and revs become erratic. Revs fall aprx 500 from 2000 rpm or will steadily & slowly climb upwards to 2800 - 3000.

There are no warning lights or error codes stored.

I have removed and cleaned throttle body.
Reset the ecu ( remove battery lead 1 hour)
    No improvement.

    Anything else to try?
I can purchase new throttle body but would like to be confident it will fix before going to that expense.

Or should I give it over to a mechanic at this stage?

    Thanks for any advise

Throttle body adaption required (ASSUMING SAME AS REAL OLD VAG SYSTEMS)

Not familiar with Skoda but that problem sounds very familiar. I often found it was either/both the lambda sensor(s) and/or MAF. IOW a fuel air imbalance (assuming the throttle body assembly is fine).

Had it with two cars i've owned. They were both older cars. The 2004 had two new lambda sensors and a MAF but the 2009 only need a bank 1 Lambda sensor. No EML but the diagnostic reader found a fault code, hence the easy fix.

    MAF on Hyundai Accent.
Occassionally fuel trim out of range logged.

MAF was reading low; so Lambda result is low; more fuel is added to keep mixture correct. Revs rise as a result, repeats until ECU abandons and resets.

    Update : Passed

I brought it to a v.w mechanic who said this is common. He said there wasnt snything to be done but to ask the nct inspector to high idle under load - lights on, blower on full, powersteering and rear window heater

I tried this and it was possivle to hold steady high idle

Nct lad was sound and even while I asked him to do the above he finished my sentence so they must know about this issue. From checking online it certainly seems a common issue

    Might help someone going forward

Pity he wasn't so sound as to do it the first time.
