Why is alcohol and drug use seen as "sexy"....?

    Assume I know the answer.

    .....

I just want to see if ya'll know the answer.

    .....

Would it have something to do with alcohol disinhibiting our inhibitions, thus in its own degenerative way, helping us get laid?

Thus, "sexy"? (even though the realistic outcome is anything but).

    Very counter intuitive.

Like quantum physics - the fundamental behavior of everything in the universe (including the universe itself) is a wave.

But look around you, doesn't seem very "wave like".

Seems much more classical Newtonian, particle like (or particle amalgam).

    ....

There's a great many puzzles not yet solved, a great many answers not yet revealed.

    They're not sexy

I'm sure a lot of it comes from TV and advertising

Alcohol is associated with having a good time, lowering inhibitions and getting people laid... sexy, probably not.

Drugs, I’ve never viewed as sexy, it’s illegal and some people marketing it do so under the idea of it being dangerous, fun, glamorous, edgy.... its ultra destructive.

Yeah, we were all just discussing how sexy you looked at the weekend falling around the place, chewing the jaw off yourself

Edgy is sexy. Think James Dean smoking a cigarette. No one gets laid for being nice or harmless. Sex, drugs and Rock 'n' Roll, a devil may care approach to life will always trump a straight laced approach to life in terms of having a certain allure.

First they came for the socialists...

Some nice points made, but mostly just denial and masquerading (no offense).

Tommy Tiernan did a nice sketch, waaaaaayyy back when,

    42:30 to about 46:30

I like how he used the title lyrics from "The Doors" track,

"Break on through, to the other side".

And thereafter there's allusions made to achieving at dissociated state consistent with the cosmos itself - and then boinking.

    .....

Being seen as "edgy/cool" etc. is one thing, but we must remember with alcohol and drug use comes distinct alterations in nervous system signalling, function, and therefore thought process and behavior.

Of course alcohol and drug use increase sociability, social bonding, because via their mechanism they can induce said mild dissociative properties.

THAT, is the reason they're glamorized.

Because, to get our rocks off - we must become a wave, the fundamental state of the cosmos itself (i.e. quantum).
On an intuitive level we know this; boring, everyday, mundane = no good for boinking.
We must be free, unburdened, flowing - all the properties and characteristics of a wave.

Alcohol and drug use may help achieve that.

    May help.....

I think the point I was making was, trying to find that "wave state" (aka flow state - as waves flow - quelle suprise), can so often be degenerative in itself.

i.e. getting "fucked up" = more "wave like", more chilled, more easy going, more approachable etc., but as outlined above, can so often make folk look insanely foolish, not to mentioned health implications.

    .....

Obviously there's also certain stigma associated with "drinking alone".

See I notice in groups, such as at a venue/bar etc., that uplifting mood elevation or kind of collective energy, that in itself also seems to assist with achieving that dissociative "wave state".

So that, in conjunction with an additional effector like alcohol = pretty much the basis of socialization in Ireland.

And - "live for the weekend" - many people just grind out the working week for those dissociative Fri/Sat nights getting shit faced in the "da pub".

i.e. attaining that "wave state", care free, unburdened, almost a means to decompress, and naturally that's the time when the average dude/gal is gonna try and get laid.

= we must embody the wave state to have decent sex.

    "Let's get crazy tonight!!"

    ......

Therefore, alcohol/drug use = "sexy" (i.e. the closest association the common person has with getting laid or embodying a state where they can experience that dissociative intimacy)..... :o

In fact there was a piece in The Journal recently,

    https://www.thejournal.ie/nitrous-oxide-gas-dublin-warning-5112811-Jun2020/

...describing rise in use of nitrous oxide cannisters (aka "laughing gas").

i.e. folk can't socialize and decompress at night in pub/club venues now, so they're going to parks during the daytime and using a mild dissociatives.

    ......

We could conclude that, achieving that dissociative state seems to be such an intrinsic part of human functionality, something we chase all the time, the high points of our lives, the "good times".

Maybe because drug addicts are so skinny?
