Andy Powell UK hand built bike

Picked up this bike in my uncles shed last year in the UK. Badged by Andy Powell of Overbury Bristol. Not sure what type of steel but extremely light. Shimano 600 chainset and levers with Mavic derailleurs. 5 speed cassette and tubular rims. Weinmann brakes. I was going to restore but have enough bikes and not enough dedication to take on the project. Frame size approx 22.5". Free to a good home. South Dublin.

Looks like Ishiwata 017 tubing. Not surprised it's light, it's 0.4 mm thick!

Less well-known (and much rarer) are the "017" and "015" tube sets. Despite not being heat-treated, these tubes were drawn down to super-thin dimensions. The "017" was 0.7/0.4/0.7 mm ... Needless to say, these were only used for track or time trial bikes, and likely only for very lightweight riders.

Don't worry, there is no secret society of people who have bought bikes I've previously restored, meeting under cover of darkness, furtively whispering old Shimano part numbers to each other in code.


Anyone who is now the keeper of one of my past projects seem to be happy with them and they have given them each a good home; this in turn makes me happy!
