I am extending our gravel driveway in the front of our house, we currently have tar & chip as our driveway with stone on top of it, our cars will be parked on this.

I’ve been told to extend onto our driveway the best thing to do would be dig down 9” and pour in 8” of 804 fully compress that down and then add 1” of stone on top to match in with the rest of the driveway. Is this the best way to extend our driveway, any other recommendations to do this and any other types of gravel and layers and depths then 8” of 804?
Any suggestions are welcomed, thanks.
