Rebuild top end or just do head?

Hi All, I have a 2004 mitsubishi pajero sports 2004 with a 2.5 engine. Recently the head gasket went causing the head to crack. No water in oil. Was just blowing exhaust into rad.

Full service history and 150k miles.

One of the head bolts were rounded so I believe this caused the gasket to go and head to crack. Not torqued correctly I think.

New upgraded head, gaskets, bolts at 690 Inc vat, il fit valves, rockers and cam and paste in.

Now to hone block, replace con rod bearings, piston rings and if crank bearings need to be replaced, injectors reconditioned, as well as new head etc, all in at 1050 Inc vat.

Chassis solid and body good. Very clean 4x4

Is it worth doing the extra work?

    Will it improve the value?

    Appreciate anyone's input

If people are interested, I can post pictures of the progress.

Sounds like it would be worth doing the extra. The injectors alone would be €40 or €50 each. How much of the work are you doing yourself. What’s the mileage?

Sorry, I see you have posted the mileage.

Thanks for the reply, ya seems not much more and have a pretty good engine after. Doing everything except the honing and injectors. Second engines seem very expensive.

Do you think it will increase the value?

It be hard sold now especially with head off. Belts oil and filters will add to cost. I done mk2 Pajero 2.5 before Xmas but head wasn’t cracked, just needed to be skimmed. Are you planning on keeping her?

Well have the timming kit and belts. Oil about 70-80 for the good stuff. Probably be another 100 on top after.

Ya say so. At least for the next year. Need to tow from time to time.

Think il go agead and do the work.

    Thanks everyone

water pump went on my 2005 pajero swb, engine heavily overheated. Only changed the head, timing belt and water pump. Drove it on for 4 more years with no issues.
