I want to install a gap in my fence to accommodate a gate. I do not have the gate yet. The fence is 90cm high. I want the gap to be about 1m wide. How wide should the gap be?

Short answer,as wide as you want.1 meter isn't huge especially if your carrying anything in or out.Make sure it's wide enough for ease of access, think wheelbarrow, lawnmower etc.Mind them knuckles!!

I made it 1020mm to accommodate a standard sized gate with clearances on each side. My question wasn't very clear about what specifically I was trying to find out.
