Booster Pump - Noisy

Have a Stuart Turner 1.5 bar Universal pump which is situated in the hot press upstairs in standard semi d and is used to feed both hot and cold taps in the 4 bathrooms in the house (one of which is in the attic) and also the kitchen sink hot tap and a power shower in the upstairs bathroom.

Pump is approx 10 or 11 years old

Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise it generates when running normally?
Early mornings are a pain, the whole house is woken by it.
I know I can switch it off during off-peak times and that is fine for all areas except the attic, where for obvious reasons of gravity, there is no flow at all without the pump.

Picture below of the setup about a week ago.

I have since purchased an anti-vibration mat, specifically designed to reduce vibration in these pumps and also put some pieces of aeroboard between pipes that were touching and possibly causing vibration when the pump runs, see below for current setup

It doesn't seem to have made much difference, is there anything else I can try?
The pump is otherwise functioning perfectly and the pump supplier (where I purchased the mat) advised that it's a very good pump and should not be replaced for years.

Anybody else have issues with the noise these pumps generate?

    Yes.

I got them to fit a timer, it only comes on when we need it and not in the middle of the night or early in the morning.

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately, that's not a full solution for us, as the bathroom in the attic doesn't get any water without the pump running.

i bought noise reducing mats off alli express or wish and put them all around the hot press. it helped a bit but ya can still hear the hum. there the type like egg boxes used for reducing the noise from music.

You might get a better reply/suggestion in the Plumbing forum but I was recently looking at pumps and saw Salamander reccomended in a few places.

There's an article here they have on noise ratings etc. that might be worth a look. I'd imgaine the tech and noise has moved on a bit from 10 years ago so it might be a case of a new pump if the noise is really bothering you.

We have one as well, it was very noisy when it was on the timber floor. Plumber fitted the foam mat and it made a big difference. He said there wasn’t much else he could do but he did say he had seen some house where a carpenter (probably) has built and insulated cage around them, for want of a better description.

As someone mentioned already - This is definitely a question for the plumbing forum, its fairly active with a lot of good contributors.

We've a Grundfos (I think its 3 bar) which I think may have its own rubber mounting feet and the Plumber sat it on the concrete floor of the hot press on an off-cut of timber skirting board and while if you were right outside where it is you'd know its on, its never generated complaints or been irritating - I actually had 75mm dense foam mats I got as packing put aside in the garage to stick under it but just never bothered as there didn't seem to be an issue.

Are you sure your pump isn't somehow defective/acting up?

You need to look for any element in the entire chain that could be vibrating or making contact with something it shouldn't - if anything is barely tipping you'll get an amplified effect through the house.
