    I think there is a new regulation that you can, but you still need the IBT to do so. (this may be in the UK and yet to be in Ireland)
    Either way you will need an IBT.
    So you might as well sit the theory test and do the full A class motorcycle IBT given the price difference between the IBT for a 125cc and the IBT for a 650cc

    Have a look at the back of your driving licence OP.

    You will see 4 categories of bike.
    AM = mopeds
    A1 = motorbike <125cc and power <11kw
    A2 = motorbike with power <30kw
    A = all the rest.

    If you have dates beside any of these rows then that indicates what you can drive. No date means you cant and need to go thru the ibt process etc.

    If you got a uk car licence before a certain date, sometime mid nineties i think you got the A1 motorcycle class with it. It transfers to an irish licence, so in some cases yes you can. Check the back of your licence, if it says A1 you can.
