    Hi Guys,

Newbie to this thread. Looking to get into MTB for mix of road and trails.

6ft 3” so probably looking at an XL frame.

Purchase via Bike to Work scheme with value up to E1250.

Another newbie lad at work purchased Merida Big Trial 400 and said it is a nice bike. Any recommendations from the seasoned experts?

    Thanks

You might need to describe a little more what you mean by 'trails'?

I have a Giant Fathom and highly recommend, two friends both former roadies like myself were so impressed they also bought Giant Fathoms.
Thankfully they are all different colours lol.

Hey do you mind me asking which flavour of the Fathom you went with? Was it the Fathom 2, did you go for the 27.5 inch or the 29 inch?

Did you go for XL? I got a big trail as well, 29er size L and was really surprised at how much bigger it is than a normal bike. about 8inches longer, really wide handlebars, having trouble fitting it in the bike storage and on the bike rack

Hi. I went for XL as that was what website sized me for.

It does feel very big and wide but I guess I will get used to it.

Yes the fathom 2 with 27.5 inch.
Lately however im doing most spins on the road and canal banks since i had a big off back in November on a trail and broke some ribs im terrified of trails now.
In that sense 29s might suit me more but i reckon the difference is minor.
