Is it an advantage going to main dealers for a service when selling on again.Obviously it would cost more for a service.

Depends on how old the car is.
You have to with newer cars to keep the warranty.

The prices of main dealers can be exorbitant though.

Does it have a full Volkswagen service history or has it been serviced by independent garages already?

Suppose it depends on how much you think it'll devalue your car.

Say you get your service and maintenance done at an indie every year and it's €200 cheaper.

You want to sell after 3 years, you've saved €600 on service, would you lose that on the sale purely because you don't have VW stamps on the service book?

You can also get it serviced by the main dealer for an awful lot less. My main dealer is cheaper than any indie.

It wasn't serviced previously by a main dealer in the UK.

No you don't have to go to main dealer to maintain warranty, EU law says you don't.
Maybe looks better when selling though.

That model year would be out of warranty..

Any decent garage should be able to service it

If thats the case then no point going to main dealer. It would be different if the car had a full Volkswagen service history already
