If the cigarette socket is powered off when you turn off the ignition then the camera is using its internal battery for park mode.
I used to have a dash cam constantly plugged in to my own car and it was fine for weeks on end.
If you're sure the socket is powered off then it will most likely be OK.

Thanks for that. Yeah it seems there is no power in socket once engine is turned off. Blue light goes out on cable and camera switches off. Just worried about battery. Thanks again

I have front and rear Thinkware permanently wired in. Never had any 12V problems. You can set a lower voltage on the app where the unit will not operate. Think mine is set at 12.4V.

I have a cheap dash cam that is always plugged into the 12v socket. It loses power and shuts off about 1 min after the car is locked as it needs a constant power feed to function. I'd imagine most dash cams are similar unless they are hardwired to a fuse that keeps them powered even after the car is locked.

That's the way mine is set up, hardwired to a live fuse, so it records if the car is given a knock when locked. I have disabled the motion detection function due to the sheer number of files.

I have the nextbase 522gw. When it says motion detection does that mean if the car is bumped or does it mean it switches on if somone walks by. I park my car in a basement car park and would like it to record if anybody approaches my car

Your dashcam won't switch on if it doesn't have a constant power feed when the car is locked. If it's only plugged into the 12v socket then it will lose power soon after the car is locked. To do what you are saying it sounds like you need it hardwired to a live fuse so that it has power all the time even when the car is locked.

Nextbase 512GW has an internal battery and records in parking mode when the power supply is off.

How long would the battery last?

Yes it does but does not last very long. If its ok to connect to powerbank then it would last a good while

No idea,it warns me every time I get in that the battery is low when I leave it overnight. I don't do many long trips and never check what the level is when I get out. Camera is at the lowest sensitivity setting.
