I'm in the market for a log splitter.

Requirements are a wide table, vertical splitter, table about waist high, doesn't really have to be two handed operated - I have worked a two handed splitter before so I might prefer a single lever, and auto return essential.

What makes in this country would fit that bill?

It'll be worked on the three point linkage of the tractor and the hydraulics and a view as well of working on a forklift's hydraulics.

Don't buy without checking out ultan carrolls range of splitters.you will find some of their ads on donedeal.

Have linkage mounted one here. 4foot wide table. Great for building up a small supply on to keep you in position.

There was a previous thread called log splitter purchase advice

My comment from then still stands, see below. On the auto return, mine does not have this but I'd say it can be got. If your chopping a lower sized log, you may only need to lift the ram a little bit but the auto return will always go to the full amount so its taking more time.

Have one here from Moyvalley engineering. Its the one that splits at waist height. Have it 7 years. Saw all of them at ploughing one year and thought this was the best and very well built. Still working fine. Also the ram height can be adjusted to cater for longer logs when they arise. Nothing spent on it since I got it.

My God they make some machines there.

Just checked their fb site. From a remote controlled 120 ton splitter to a pallet breaker.

By law, the splitter has to be 2 hand operation. Don't get a one hand operated one. Too dangerous.

bought a Hand engineering log splitter

great machine. Had dealt with the lad a few times before but recently he turned into a bit of a ****** over another issue on a digger hitch

Machine is 2 handed and auto return and very happy with it

I have a carroll one too, the only fault I have is that there's no auto return on it.
it's a pain waiting for the ram to return. I can't understand why it has to be two hand operation, it's not as if the ram comes down fast or anything.
Needles to say mine doesn't require two hands at this stage

Kentec have the name of making a good post driver, their log splitter may be worth a look? Another brand you'd see anyway.

Have one for the past 8 years. Really well built and a super wedge for splitting, it's hardox.
Also avoid the ones which have the ram welded to the wedge. It's a leads to the ram getting bent.

That Buckin' Billy Ray (second video above) is stone mad. Never seen anyone as passionate about cutting and splitting timber. I love the sound of those old McCullough chainsaws.

Oh I told him directly to his face. Sold me a digger hitch and rebranded it by his own admission in writing

Not a happy camper when I found out after going looking for a replacement part

That said the log splitter is a serious tool and shocking well made. I wont knock him for them one bit and know loads of lads who will say the same

He even has a version the runs on a pto to drive the oil pump and it comes with a conveyor belt on the side
