    From here
    https://passiv.de/en/02_informations/02_passive-house-requirements/02_passive-house-requirements.htm

    I see
    Passive House requirements

For a building to be considered a Passive House, it must meet the following criteria ( for detailed criteria, please see the building certification section):

    1. The Space Heating Energy Demand is not to exceed 15 kWh per square meter of net living space (treated floor area) per year or 10 W per square meter peak demand.

In climates where active cooling is needed, the Space Cooling Energy Demand requirement roughly matches the heat demand requirements above, with an additional allowance for dehumidification.

    2. The Renewable Renewable Primary Energy Demand (PER, according to PHI method), the total energy to be used for all domestic applications (heating, hot water and domestic electricity) must not exceed 60 kWh per square meter of treated floor area per year for Passive House Classic.

If I understand it correctly, the BER is based on total energy p.a. divided by floor area.

Primary Energy includes all losses so for elec is say 2.5 and 1.1 for oil and gas.

so whats the equivalent BER for the
60 kWh per square meter of treated floor area per year for Passive House Classic.

They are not really comparable to be honest C.

The different conventions can lead to vastly different results.

I have done BERs on passive builds that have been A2 rated.... And I know of certified passive builds that have been B2 rated because the main heating system had to be included as an electrical element in the ventilation system.

But to answer your question, 60kwhr/m2/yr is equivalent to somewhere between a B1 and A3

Passive houses tend to be much lower than 60kwhr m2/yr though

Thanks, the background is that I have been asked to explain the difference:D
