Many, many times I'd imagine. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen every year at the World Championship.

I doubt even Selby believes he can get the necessary snookers and win here. Playing so badly. Needed 2 snookers, but played such a poor positional shot on the red, forced to take blue instead of pink and now 3 snookers needed.

    Could be on here now.

Nah, thought he had a decent chance of laying a good snooker behind pink there. Not to be. 2-6 a fair reflection of how he's played.

Yeah he got 2 quick snookers to be fair to him. Not surprising that his ability to lay a snooker is the last aspect of his game to fail him.

Robbo playing too well to think even a selby comeback is possible here. Very hard to see it at this point.

Two total clearances to start by hawkins. Not often you'd see that. Impressive stuff.

    Ronnie on top now

Second bit of cue slashing we've seen from ronnie this week. Not like him usually.

O’Sullivan needs to go back to Rock ‘n’ Roll Star.

    He's 'mellowing'.

Barry simply has to be potting those. Was far from a gimmee with the rest, but it's those pressure shots that decide matches at this level, gift of a frame to his opponent.

Playing well to be fair, hawkins. Has ronnie under it here. But seen him in this position plenty of times before when he hasn't got job done. Haven't had a classic finish yet this week, have a feeling this could be it.

That could hurt Baz, had match at his mercy there. Tasty little clearance from ronnie to keep it alive.

Squeaky bumb time for Barry, match was at his mercy.

Definitely, you'd still imagine Hawkins will get another chance but will he have the bottle now to take it??
Can't see Ronnie missing, given the chance

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Barry has played well but just a couple of big shots have let him down. One with the rest earlier and that virtual match ball at 9-6. Would hurt him badly to not get this done the way he's played.

Don't know how Ronnie missed that red.
Take him a while to get over it if he doesn't win at this stage

    Final frame decider!

Thought ronnie could have gone for a pot off the fb, still have snooker if he missed. Didn't like the shot he played. Immaterial now anyway. Another chance for Barry there, is he going to get many more?

Awful shot from Barry, could cost him...

What a shot from Ronnie, some pressure on that.

    Hawkins bottled it. Again.

Devastating for Barry that tbf. He's around a long time but you don't bounce back from a defeat of that manner for a while. He had it won when 9-6 up really.
I'll be more than surprised if he gets through the 1st round of the crucible now after that. A qualifier after having played 2/3/4 games will have the edge on him. How could you get your inner confidence back to the right level after that.

That has to hurt Barry. I agree with the commentator, the aura of Ronnie without doubt gets to some, it's an extra advantage he has and I think it affected Barry tonight.

Not the way you want to limber up for the crucible right enough. Though he's usually reliable enough getting through opening rounds, just tends to trip up when he meets the real quality. Good player and lovely fella, Barry, but never one of the games serial winners.

Well true, he has a good record there alright. I'm really looking forward to it this year. With crowds being allowed back in after the last year and even with the top fellas playing great I have a suspicion it'll be an outsider winning it this year

It was bad enough not to give the clearance a good go after Ronnies miss on the red but to not get the snooker tight behind the brown was unforgivable.

    Agreed.

Ronnie pulled out some great shots and moments but Barry gave it to him really, it was more Barry losing it than Ronnie winning it.

Yeah the stun tight in against the Brown for snooker on the yellow was a shocker.
