Hi. Is there much difference in having a service history with....

Garage servicing with receipts/service book stamps.

    Or...

Indy servicing with motor factor parts receipts only.

Car is seven years old. Bought with garage stamped service history. Requires a timing belt and service now.

Can the indie not stamp the book ?

The main thing is that there's a record of service history be it main dealer or independent

Some main dealers are not stamping the service booklets any more. Their service records are computerised. Best to have receipts imho since they do tend to have more detail anyway.

Depends entirely on the car. I'd want to see a dealer service history on a luxury car, with everything suggested in the yearly report completed. Not that it *actually* makes a difference, but it does provides an insight into whether the owner was trying to cut costs.

On something more common, an independent wouldn't make a difference to me.

True. When I bought the car I rang the dealer that always serviced it to check if the timing belt was done. They could tell me it wasn't, but they would only be able to give me a printout with dates and mileage. GDPR. So seems these computerised records are only useful to the first owner?

It's a 14 focus. So maybe receipts for timing kit, service parts and other required wear and tear parts would suffice from here on?
