Covered Pergola

    Hi all

Would planning permission be required for a covered pergola?

Seems a strange question. I’ve a large garden 10m x 45m. I want to put a large canopy over our patio. I’m planning 4 steel supports, joisting, and rubber roof.

I can find info on garden shed / garden room but it’s none of those things.

I know there’s a section 5 thing available. Would appreciate any views.

    Thanks

See pic to give an idea.

    Shed/garage/store limits apply.
    25 Sq. M max.
Remaining space of 25 Sq. M garden.

If you have another shed then you need to add the area of both not to exceed the 25.

Don’t wast time on a Section 5. You’ll loose 5-7 weeks and simply be told the above and to refer to Class 3 as per Bryan’s post.

It does look like an apple green petrol station.

Consider working the design to work with the house not against it. Good pergola shouldn't stand out should be subtle addition.

    Thanks all.

Feck it anyway. The neighbours a serious pain in the hoop.

Ah it won’t look like that. But you’re right - I couldn’t put my finger on what it looked like.

I was thinking of 11m wide and 4.5m deep. A mono pitch from about 2.4m to 3.4m or so. I want to integrate the shed into the structure.

I want it on the big size cos our garden is so big. Anything smaller would look piddly. You’d never sit in it and it would be a waste really.

I was thinking of building it with a steel frame so I could have a somewhat uninterrupted view.

Perhaps an engineer at this stage?

Based on 11x4.5 you need planning.
Based on 3.4m high you need planning.
Then you add the existing shed. You need planning :)
