long story short a mate of mine needs new wheels (to him) asap

he's not into pc etc so asked me to have a look around (online)

had his heart kinda set on a ford kuga, but his mechanic advised against diesel 'cos of the very small mileage he's doing and at that it's only stop/start journeys

kuga petrol's seem far and few between, had a look at petrol qaskqai but seem to be 1.2 which seems small for the size of car, I know for the driving he's doing it may not matter but can;t tell what's down the line

which brought us to s. vitara 1.6 petrol, none available locally but a couple within reason distance wise.

budget is about 15K (possible stretch a little if really need be)

he just want a sizeable vehicle with a high seat (atm kinda veering toward the vitara)

opinions on above thoughts? or any further suggestions welcome

he located mid west region and not willing to travel to dublin but reasonable distance otherwise

    TIA

I can't really think of anything apart from the Suzuki Vitara.

    SUVs/Crossover + Petrol = expensive to run, unless it's a hybrid.

Thanks for replying. Mileage is tiny probably less than 5k km per year hence his mechanic was against diesel.

1.2 in the Qashqai has a turbo and has around the same power as the 1.6 in the Vitara. Having a turbo obviously adds more potential problems but from a power perspective I wouldn't rule the Qashqai out. Renault Kadjar is another which is mechanically the same as the Qashqai.

    I’d have a 1.2 Qashqai over a 1.6 Vitara every time

There you go, you got your answer, I would listen to bazz and colm suggestions, they the reason I got a renault fluence 1.5 DC-ice engine.

    What year is the Vitara?
My brother had a loan of one for a couple of weeks recently, new model hybrid one.
I found it pleasant to drive, preferred it to the Toyota chr hybrid which I had a loan of myself a while back.
But the interior is a let down, its very dated and not very high quality.
I think at 25k they are decent enough value.

Slight left field suggestion, Skoda Yeti 1.2 petrol

But I'd agree with the guys here, the Qashqai over the Vitara any day.

ok thanks again and the heads up on the Qashqai 1.2 , colm and bazz would you agree with his mechanic not to go diesel 'cos of the small mileage and mainly short journeys?

I don't think he's too pushed about styling etc just wants a sizeable machine with high seating position

budget is 15k perhaps a bit more is need be.

That yeti looks interesting but he won't go to D. but I see they are doing nation wide delivery, auto as well which he would't mind ,

3 owners though ? maybe nothing to worry about but us culchies tend to hold cars a bit longer

    Love those.
Skoda should have kept making them.

He should definitely stay away from diesel at his low mileage.

Oh I didn't mean that exact one, just giving you an example of what could be got. No worries though, it was just another possible suggestion to add to the list.

I love them, seriously thinking of getting one but the better half hates them with a passion.

Might get one anyway but we would then have an interesting situation where one has to be parked on the street as we only have room for 2 cars in front of the house and I could end up sleeping in it if I brought one home :D
