Buying a car

So I went to see a car from a dealer yesterday morning at 10AM. He mixed up his appointments and thought I was coming at 1pm, so the car wasn't cleaned or anything, that's not a big deal, he gave it a quick wash. It drove great but we noticed the back seats are dirty with mould on seat belts. He said he would get it cleaned and put a fresh NCT on it and give me a call later that evening to give me a date. I gave a deposit and was happy enough

I did not get that call and just wondering how long is a reasonable amount of time before I follow up with a call? I did txt them them at about 3:30 yesterday and he said "no date yet, but working on it". Just concerned with NCT back logs

What is it, mileage, year, etc etc etc....

Mould on belts etc would be from sitting up.

2010 with around 150,000 miles. It was sitting up since new years but said he would service if it needs it

Diesel. Just wondering how is a reasonable time before I give them a call as I don't know how long a dealer would take to NCT if they have to wait for weeks like everyone else

If you read my post I am happy with the car I picked and gave deposit. I was simply asking how long is a reasonable time to call since I don't know if dealers get faster NCT tests or have to wait like the rest of us

I’d say just give them a call tomorrow evening, NCT is fairly back logged and dealers can’t get spaces any quicker than private individuals. He just needs to keep checking for cancellations

They are probably waiting for a NCT cancellation slot. There are huge delays with the NCT due to Covid even for dealers. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to get an appointment the day after you agreed to buy it. You could be waiting a week or longer or they get lucky and get a cancellation sooner. The point really is that nobody knows for sure not even the dealer.

It should have been clean whatever time you showed up at

Should have been but I think they a planned to clean it before 1 when they thought I was coming. I don't mind as long as its properly cleaned when I get it

That is true, I heard dealers can get it in faster, thought they might still be able to

I bought my motor and it was due an NCT, I confirmed with them i would be booking it myself and they would reimburse the cost and any additional (there should be none as it's first NCT and in great nick)

It's a 2010 car so it would be handier for them to do it incase there is any issues

It's alot easier to get a dealer to rectify the car that has failed it's NCT before you buy it than afterwards once they have your money. The OP is buying an 11 year old car with 150,000 miles on it.

Thank you for all the replies. I did contact the seller and they offered me the car to drive while waiting 4 weeks for NCT, the n pay for anything the NCT find wrong. I decided to say no as a previous posted said, would be easier for them to fixe it them hand it over than me chasing them. They then txt me late last night saying the got an NCT date for Thursday so all good

    Thanks for your help
