Hope someone can help me out.
Due to being unfortunately stranded on the side of the road twice in the last the two weeks in my 08 Saab 9-3 estate due to an unknown electrical fault im in need to replace it with something a bit more reliable.

Looking locally as i need something fairly rapid(i know not an ideal way to be looking)- currently car less and need one to get to work .A local dealer has a 2010 Honda Acord 2.2 automatic drove it and seems to be a nice machine full leather interior sunroof etc tax is 570 on it a year though but its a nice car.
Has about 230 k km on it but still seems fine no knocks bangs etc .

Anyone have previous experience of running one or should i stay away?
Budget would be about 5k tops can anyone recommed a saloon or estate in that bracket
Due to lockdown im not doing huge mileage but would do about 15-17k km in a normal year

Any help would be great thanks

The only bad I heard on them was if it has a sunroof to check for corrosion around it. The diesel engine is probably not up to the refinement of the VW diesels but reliable none the less.

There was an issue with those engines in the 00s if the wrong oil was used. Affecting the timing chain I think. There was also an injector issue too I believe. A Google should reveal all. Both may have been solved by 2010 though.

The auto version is supposed to be sore enough on juice. You’ll know where it sits relative to other cars by the tax amount.

I think the issues in the post above were on the i-CTDi as opposed to the i-DTEC on the newer ones

I drove a 2008 Honda Accord 2.2 Diesel for 4 years. It was a great car. Huge mileage on it. Had the full leather\sunroof\satnav etc - top spec. It was manual though, and cost €390 a year road tax. Had to replace the bearings on the back wheels, and also a power steering hose sprung a leak so I had to replace that. Never let me down though. Sold it when it reached 200,000 miles but it was still running fine. They are pretty reliable cars. As with all cars check the history and make sure you get a good price on it.

Those auto boxes are a little heavier on juice than the manual and the idtec engine is very reliable. The automatic version is reliable. They should be serviced with 0-w30 oil ONLY, and don't let any mechanic or motor factors salesman tell you otherwise. I serviced mine every 10-12k kilometres but every 15k would be fine, and fuel filter every second service. The previous 7th gen model did suffer from timing chain issues but not the 8th gen. The sunroof can corrode around the edges so check it to make sure it's not leaking and is functional, otherwise its a very expensive fix. Make sure the Aircon is working. Although if its not working it may need to be gassed. If the Aircon system runs out of gas it will seize and is expensive to fix.

If you plan to service it yourself you can use this tool to change the fuel filter. It fits perfectly.

    I've had 2 accords a 2008 and a 2011 no issues.
Would swap my current car to go back but I needed a 7 seater.

Appeared to be a fine car but it was sold so I missed out on it.

Mods fell free to lock this thread if wanted thanks
