Fires - deliberate?

So annoyed to see this - massive damage. Same thing happened last year. And remember last year, as per this one, the blame could not be attached to the public. It's been so convenient to blame the public in previous years.

Not any longer. The tide has gone out and it is clear to see who is swimming in the nude here. But will anything be done ?

And this really p*ssed me off - read the 2020 RTE report - the first sentence. At the time we were in a very strict lockdown.

"Appeals have been made to the public not to start fires in exposed natural settings, "

For crying out loud. The public, at the time under 3km restrictions!

Come on guys, why have we sheep grazing in designated special areas of conservation?

And how many people were "prosecuted under the Wildlife Act" ? I'd hazard a guess.

Agree totally and why are farmers not prosecuted? The years I lived on the edge of Killarney National Park, and on occasions the house was surrounded by fires and crews out saving homes.

There was a thread elsewhere on boards that thought that it was all for tick prevention and no awareness of the very real and horrific damage .

They are known, and I myself have reported seeing them lit to the Gardaí back in Kerry. Still nothing gets done.

It is allowed until end of February.

We lost 10 % of the National Park in Kerry one year. Young critters included. My house was literally surrounded by fires; I had the car packed ready to evacuate.

that's still not proof. if you're going to prosecute someone you can't rely on 'sure everyone knows it was him'.
