I thought it was just hipsters or students, but I've seen legitimate guys in 40s using skateboards as a means of transport. It really does seem like Peter Pan syndrome, similar to how there's a cohort of grown men who religiously watch wrestling...

it's better than men wearing lycra on their bikes to be fair, i've seen a chap on a motorised skateboard and it was really fast it looked like fun

He also transcended skateboarding and became a brand and a 90's icon. It's very different than seeing some chubby lad in his 90's with a beard and a wallet chain hanging out with teenagers outside the Central Bank.

It's an activity that should be left to your teenage/student years alongside wearing band t-shirts, watching comic book movies, and eating frozen pizzas for your dinner.

Sounds like a classic case of Fit Shaming, from a portly gent.....wait a minute.

Plenty of guys skating in their 40's, it was kinda big in the 80's. Like watching tv and doing nothing is for some.

Don't bother, the poster isn't even real.

People should get beer guts and head to the local ona Sunday to watch "the match" once they turn 23 tbh. No self respecting man engages in fun thrill seeking adventurous pastimes. 5 a side is just about acceptable.

Wife bought me a motorised one for my birthday last year. Great craic and I can keep up with the kids on their scooters.

No one out and about and nowhere to so “grown men” can do things with the fear of embarrassment.

I’m thinking of giving myself a Mohawk and I’m almost 40.

A piercing and some tattoos next i think.

    Cowabunga dude!

Probably faster than a car and cheaper than public transport. What does "Peter Pan" syndrome have to do with it? He never use public transport either?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Wouldnt be my thing as I'd probably make a complete tit of myself. But what's the harm? Outside getting fresh air, exercising, happy in themselves to do it.

Pretty much this, happens every year. And every year people ask the question where did they all come from. Length of time skateboard season lasts differs from year to year but that's all it is.

Never seem to see adult women skateboarding, you see teenage girls doing it all right.

What's the big deal?. Grow up OP.

    Does it matter?

Must be very sad to reach a point where you go, "I'd love to do that but I can't because I'm an adult and I'm afraid of what others will think of me".

You only get one life, if you want to use a skateboard in your 40s, go for it.

If adults want to use skateboards who cares?

It might be better for a few people to get out and do exercise instead of moaning on the internet about people out getting exercise

More power to them. It's funny people will ridicule grown men for going out on a skateboard but say nothing to them sitting on a bar stool all day.

People are weird it must be awful to live a life worrying about what people think or thinking I'm too old for this or that. Truth is nobody gives a **** and the ones who do will laugh at you no matter what you do.

Ever tried to use a skateboard? It's really feckin hard. Even standing still on one without landing on your arse is an achievement if you're as clumsy as me.

I never had one, but friends of mine had them growing up. The amount of time and effort, bruises and cuts that must go into getting to the stage of doing fancy tricks, let alone being able to casually skate along a path, as admirable.

Skating is one of those things I look at and would love to be good at, but instead I say "naah" because I know my limits

    Fair play to them.

Sure I was told when I was in my late 30s that I was too old to be wearing Hollister hoodies.

Some of the guys I see on skateboards, often around my age, can absolutely belt along on the things, especially those long boards which look like great craic. Often see grown men on them on the seafront near me. I'd do it too if my balance was good enough.
I suggest the OP never visit California or Australia where grown men on skateboards is a common sight. It's an outdoor activity, it's good for you, fair play to them.

A guy, who looked about 60, passed me on a skateboard the other day while I was walking the dog. He was on one of those “old school”, goofy looking, long boards.

Have to say I was impressed. As someone who had a skateboard growing up, I can remember how tricky it can be.

I've skated all my life. I'm well in to my 40's and still longboard. It's enjoyable and improves my other board sports. What's the problem?

^^ ha! Fortunately, long boarding is easier on the knees!

For the confused, winter rain and water isn't good for the ball bearings, that's why you don't see to many out till spring.
