Was driving along on a short journey yesterday the coolant warning came on opened the bonet coolant was gone, topped up got home and could see it dripping under the car, if I leave the car idle it will empty to well under the min level, no smoke coming out of the exhaust no oil in the coolant tank, any idea what the leak might be?

It could be a loose pipe somewhere.

Did you follow the pipe from the coolant expansion bottle to see if you've a loose connection anywhere?

If you topped up to the Max level just keep an eye on it over the next days/weeks to see if it drops again.

I got a lad to look at it and he reckons it’s a leak in a pipe but must be in at the back as he couldn’t see it but I got some k seal and hopped it into it and a couple of days later the leak seems to have stopped would it normally take that long to kick in? I had only drove it half an hour each day

Bit late to the thread but have you checked the coolant flange. A known failure point and will give a steady leak which increases when driving but continues (albeit much slower) when parked up. Had to replace it on my A6.

I threw a tin of k seal into it and it seems to have solved the issue so I think it was a leaky pipe

    What model?
    Reg?

Plenty of issues with VAG but varies with model
