    Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 avensis 2.0 d4d. Been a great car but having problems now.

My missus uses it for work. Shes telling me that its cutting out randomly.

She says it happens when she comes to stop or about to stop.

It fires back up straight away but it's obviously very annoying.

When we got the car it had problems starting and running rough so injectors were replaced by a garage (2nd hand injectors I'd assume)

Any ideas? I'm thinking could be egr valve?

Have you had it plugged in to see what fault code is showing? It will most likely be stored if the vehicle is stalling.

Idle control valve maybe if only happening when foot off the gas. Could be clogging.

    Sorry only seening this now.
Cleaned the egr anyway and the car is alot more responsive. Missus drove the car for 3 days and no cutting out issue but it did this before so not sure if it's fixed.

Plugged in my obd reader(cheap one) and that didn't show any codes.
Just noticed when I took the engine cover off, what looks like diesel on the top of the injector( see pic)
Seems odd for diesel to be up there and not where it connects from the bars underneath.
It only seems to be a small bit like in the pic.

Now I cleaned it and drove it and looks to be back.
But I'd expect a bit more diesel there after a few days driving.

I'll see if I can find that.
    Anyway to test it?

If the diesel is making its way up the injector then the seals will need replacement. Not a big deal at all

What to do is take the injector out and bring them to diesel injection services (East wall if you're in Dublin) and get them to test it and replace the seals etc. While doing so

I can't remember how much it cost exactly but I think they'll suggest you get the entire set done and something tells me it's about €120-140 a set of 4 injectors.

If it's losing a lot of diesel through there it could be misfiring to a stop but you would get an engine light and code for that even on a generic reader. But the injector needs looking at anyway for the seals so no harm getting it tested while at it

I know also the fuel rail gave trouble on the newer avensis too so another one to watch.
