Looking for people's opinions and basically their experiences, we have narrowed our choice down to 3 cars

    2017 Volvo V90 Inscription D4 FWD

    2018 Skoda Superb L&K 4wd 2.0tsi

2017 facelifted Vw Passat alltrack 2.0 tsi extra tuning on puchase to give 270ps

There is about 2k difference between the cars with the v90 starting as the most expensive

In the same order you have them there.

I’d love to know how you arrived at that particular shortlist, diesel FWD vs petrol AWD

Didnt know they did a petrol Alltrack.
If you are looking for 4wd, go for a v90 Cross Country instead.

How much was a VW Passat Alltrack new?
I think a petrol one was over €50k, so the same sort of money as the Volvo and the same price now.

A lower in the range diesel Passat would certainly hold its value better than an S90 by being way cheaper to start with and actually being sought after second hand.

Nobody apart from the OP wants a 2.0 petrol Alltrack.

Surprised the price difference is not even bigger.
Volvo is clearly no 1, altogether a more stylish and more comfortable car than the others.

Sorry forgot to mention I based currently in Switzerland which would explain why there is a 2.0 tsi offered here on the Passat all track.

Here the big advantage on the Volvo is the Swiss package of 5 year factory gaurantee from first invoice and 10 years free servicing

Thats got to be a knock out win for Volvo.

Do Volvo offer anything like that in RoI ?

The Volvo all day long. I know this is Switzerland but they are great value here second hand.

Volvo now are up there with Mercedes and Audi as the premium brands. Bmws are not as popular and second hand can be picked up much cheaper than any of the others

Only the premium brands offer the service package

    Volvo 5 yr gaurantee/100,000km, 10yr service/150,000km

Bmw Mercedes and Audi offer same gaurantee and 10 year/100,000km service

It's offered I think to discourage popping over the border to pick one up cheaper
